Out of hospital, home recovering

Hi, Guys. I had my RNY bypass Tuesday, was released Wednesday night. Tough night -- but the liquid pain meds the hospital provided helped me get some sleep. I'm still on water, broth and Jello through tomorrow, but it is oddly satisfying. I can see what they mean about hydration; the more water I can get down, the better I feel. Last night I had a spell of depression as the soreness increased (liked being body-punched). But after getting more water down, I felt almost immediately better. One question for you veterans out there -- I had my operation Tuesday, and it's now late Thursday morning . . . and I haven't had a bowel movement. Nothing in there, I suppose, but Jello, broth and water, and I am passing water regularly. But is the bowel movement thing unusual?

Good deal man.  Glad everything went well.   Every day that passes will be a better day and before you know it you'll be off the liquid diet and well on your way.    Enjoy the meds while you have them and rest up for your journey is about to kick into high gear!

Get used to the slow bowels at least for the first few months.   I would go 2 to 3 days without having a movement.

Best of luck!

Chad.

Remember you cleaned out your system first.  Then you have put nothing solid in there for a few days.  It will take awhile for that to come.  Some guys take a week for the first BM.  Call the doctor if your worried.  Rest, walk, and sip...Brian

Congrats on your successful WLS remims. After WLS, I just remember being told for the first couple of weeks to.... sip, sip, sip......walk, walk, walk......and piiss, piiss, piiss......  If I recall, no BM for me until at least week 3 post-WLS. Not to get overly graphic but the first series of my BMs were low volume, mushy and smelled like.....  Best of luck, Boner

Congrats on your surgery....Yup....give it a few more days. If you don't have a bowel movement, call your surgeon. They'll fix you up! Good luck.

Any surgery causes your bowels to shut down. In addition to that the pain meds cause constipation. If you havn't pooped in about four days; or do it right now if you feel like you should,  push a supository up there as far as you can get it. Its no big deal just don't wait any longer. I had a terrible time with constipation post op. Thats never any fun but when you're hurting from a surgery its double trouble.
