I know this is a lot of personal info to throw out there, and honestly I am a bit embarrased, but here goes...I am wanting to have wls in the US and am told my likelihood of approval is good based on my BMI and comorbidities. But, I have a criminal record,a single theft under 1000 charge from 17 almost 18 years ago and have been told this makes me inelligible to enter the US..If anyone has any info that may help me please feel free to respond..I need some advice from someone else who may have beeen in the same boat, or knows someone..Thank you in advance and sorry to burden you all with this problem of mine...I need help...

It is nice to know there are more guys out there...That is a lot of women...LOL                                                                                                                                    John

Can you apply for some type of medical waiver, perhaps posting a bond? You know we don't have any criminals here in the US

To gain legal entry into the U.S. with a Canadian criminal record it is therefore advisable to apply for a U.S. Travel Waiver. An application is made to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and generally requires the full disclosure a person’s criminal history as well as the completion of an application package including fingerprinting.

MIght  be worth hiring a lawyer and either having your records "sealed" or have it expunged(removed). If it was a minor offense, that long ago I don't see why they wouldn't do it. Then it will not be an issue.  On the other hand I don't see why that would keep you from traaveling to the US

Looks like you've already gotten some good advice cause God knows you won't  get any from Baja or me. That being said and as Baja alluded to, all I know is unlike you crazy canucks to the north , we here in the good old US of A are a peaceful, law abiding society. Seriously, I'm sure everything will work out and, as long as you have your wallet with you, you will be greeted with open arms here in the US. Best of luck with your WLS journey, John. Boner

Get on a plane and fly to Tijuana or Juarez. Then walk across. We don't seem to be stopping many people coming from that direction, criminal record or not. You may have to spend a  month or so on a landscaping crew in order to establish some street cred before they allow you in to the hospital though.  I'm just kidding.  Kinda.  Sorta. Barely.

The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

Hey John, If you're going to sneak across the border anyway, would you bring me some of that Canadian beer? I don't have a passport. I'll let you stay at my house, its not far from you. Thats if you show up with the beer of course.  Doug

Were you a teenager at the time? A juvenile offense is more likely to pass muster with the Travel Waiver than a criminal act commited as an adult (18+)... Of course, I Am Not Your Lawyer,  nor do I work for the State Department. Opinions are like ********; everyone's got one and it usually stinks.
