March 10, surgery day, 264 pounds.  Surgery apparently went well.  Went home on Wed, Friday night since I was still having bloody stool they put me back in the hospital.  Basically had bleeding for six days and almost got myself a transfusion.  Well I'm back home now and making some slow progress.  And yes I know I am not "That" big.  Well 120lbs overweight, 42.6 bmi, chest pains and a whole list of other issues was enough for me. Sorry about the venting on that last part but I got a little tired of skinny people at the hospital telling me how I was not "that" big..... You guys are great! Steve.

I'm having surgery on Monday and have about the same BMI and Weight to lose as you do!  I for one don't care what the others think I'm doing for me and my family!!!!  Keep your head up and enjoy the journey!

Don't feel you need to apologize for your pre-op weight...there are a multitude of folks with BMI's similar to yours that have had WLS.   There are even folks now with near normal BMI's who are having gastric bypass to address diabetes as it's well documented that the surgery is one of the greatest ways to combat or even better, cure the disease. For some, the need for WLS is not where we are, but where we are going in terms of weight and health issues....congratulations to you for taking control and heading down this road in pursuit of better health. Steve, Glad you came thru ok, and making progress! I'll confess, I used to be one of those guys who couldn't understand why you 'little guys' did the surgery.. LOL. As a very big guy who's goal weight is close to some guys starting weight, I had to learn that your 120 pounds of excess weight is just as big a problem to you as my 350 was to me! That's the great thing about a forum like this, it helps us see other's viewpoints! Hang in there, it's a wild ride! Dale

i got news for you, i was "only" 23 pounds heavier than you on my surgery day. yet i had a 52" waist and every single morbidity problem there was. i had the bmi thing going too. so it isn't always about being over 300#. i looked super fat and was even at the lightweight range. most important is that i was diabetic and taking 10 shots a day or on my pump. i was taking meds by the fistful. that's all gone now and i'm down to a 32" waist. most of the big guys lose what what is our final weight in just months. so a heads up. it is going to take a while to lose even 100 pounds for you probably. still, you'll be at your weight the same time as someone who's 100 pounds more than you. so don't compare. a 50 pound loss is like a hundred for us. like Dx said, think percentage.

i really needed the surgery big time and the fact that i lost a lot less than most guys here had nothing to do with it. so i've lost as much as 140 but i bounced back. still, it's no easy feat to lose 130 pounds or so. point is, i felt big both mentally and physically. and i was! so lose the weight and feel better. don't worry about what others think you should have done. you did the right thing. you got better......carbonblob

Steve, Sorry to hear you had a rough "take off." Good to hear you are home now and 'on the mend.' Hang in there. These first weeks suk even for those who had zero issues that required extended medical intervention. Know that it does get easier each week. Best Wishes- Dx
