Part of this is "head hunger", thinking you're hungry when you're actually ok for food. The other part is an increased appetite with time. The "not hungry" feeling stays with you for a few months, while you are measuring your 2 oz of food etc.  But yes, you can feel hungry at times. Try to keep healthy snacks around. One I use, and is probably 75% of my wife's protein source (she still has trouble eating post RNY of July, 2007, is to try dried peas. Availalbe at nutrition stores at about $1.35 per pound, 1/4 cup = 6 grams of protein. Go to: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=56 and learn a lot. The web site whfood.com has a whole host of nutritional information. This link: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=92#fo odsources has a comprehensive list of the 55 most protein dense foods around.

NO, it is NOT  just head hunger. I am so hungry some days recently that it hurts. It is not head hunger and you are not alone. I am trying to drink even more liquids and even more protein. I haven't gained any weight  but my weight loss has definitely slowed down a lot. I have an appointment next week for my 9 month check up and that hunger situation is my number one question.

Sean, How often a day do you eat? Dense protein? Or softer foods? Do you drink with your meals? If your stoma is working right, Denser foods (like chicken breast) Will take longer to move out of your pouch And into your intestines. That is unless you wa**** on through by drinking with meals. I eat about every 2 ½ to 3 hours, So rarely (if ever) actually hungry. Another…. What’s your fat intake? Could be a “Higher Fat” Diet could help you…. A Purdue University study showed that people, Who ate Nuts high in Monounsaturated Fat, Felt “full” an hour and a half longer Than those who ate fat-free foods. Almonds are particularly good at this, Followed by- other sources such as- Avocados, Sunflower Seeds, Flaxseed meal, etc… Even by adding Monounsaturated Fats In cooking or as salad dressings- Olive Oil! Sesame Oil! Canola! These go into “nearly” everything I cook, And they all are excellent Bad Cholesterol “scrubbers.” As are the Omega’s such as the oils Found in Salmon, Tuna, and “Darker” Fish. These not only clear out the arteries, But play a role in speeding up the metabolism. A study at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston found that People who took omega-3’s, Burned more calories throughout the day than those who didn’t. And, they claimed to feel “satiated” as well. Just my first thoughts….. Have you spoken to your doc about it? Perhaps you may need to have him check to make sure Everything is working ‘mechanically’ as planned. Best Wishes- Dx
