had lap band surgery.. now how have catheter
I had my lap band surgery on Friday Morning... Everything went fine.... That is until I tried to pee twelve hours later.... I tried and tried and tried and tried. Standing over the toilet, lying down in the bed with one of those plastic thingys, running my hand under warm water... Nothing worked. They had to catheterize me (not very fun) and out came about a little more than 1/2 gallon of pee. They said it can happen with anesthesia... Now I am at home wearing one... three days later. Anyone had this problem???
Thanks in advance

Hey C-
ouch...sorry this has not happened to me...but to a lot of my patients...it is definately anesthesia based...
here is the deal....yo may pee fine right now...but if not...they have to go cath you again...that is why they are waiting the 3 days to take it our...nasty I know...but a simple fix, if not unpleasant ...
ouch man...2 liters could not have felt good...i'm glad they got it out of you

Been there...done that!! It was the hardest part of WLS for me. I had to stay home with the bag for one week. They put me on Flomax (sp). I then went to the urologist. They added some water to my bladder and took out the catheter. I was able to pee after that. Sorry, but you are one of those few who have to have it this way. It should be better in a few days. Keep your eye on the prize man. It can be very discouraging, but in a few days it should be done and over. I would hook the bag on to my pants or sweats. I would sleep with the bag on the floor next to my bed. PM me if you have more questions. From someone who knows what your going through...Brian
yep, I've had all those problems and then some. It sucks but just keep your chin up, better days are coming. (On three different occasions I wore a cath for 4 weeks at a time due to problems from surgery for prostate cancer. After that I carried a protable around and "did" myself when I had to pee. Sounds wierd now but that seemed so much better).
