I was a light weight before RNY.  After two cups my stomach would churn.  Now I have to really milk up my coffee and I can only handle about 3oz at a time.  After that it is big time gas and digestion problems.  Just wondering where post op guys are at.  How much can you drink at a sitting??  Brian

I cant take very much anymore . Makes me jittery as hell and I dont like that feeling .I drink about half a small cup when I get to work .And then around ten ( pm ) I have another hale cup .  (about 3-4ozs ) after my surgery my toleranc to caffeine seems to have droped I cant drink half as much as i used to be able . I guess thats a good thing though . Dont need all that caffeine anyway .If I drink any coffee , for that fact anything with caffeine in it after ten pm there's no going to sleep untill the sun comes up or later ! BTW I get off work at 3:00 AM . Before surgery I could have a cup right up untill it was time to go to bed , and sleep like a baby .      Nick

I went several months brewing very strong coffee in large batches to be refrigerated in sealed bottles and mixed with a scoop of vanilla protein for breakfast.  20 ounces 5 times a week didn't seem to affect me much at all.

The night before last I had 2 very large cups of coffee over a 12 hour shift and felt like **** when I got home.

wowwwww Brian, that is a loaded question.. I know Dave in Japan, drinks pot at a time... now me...first thing in the morning...(as I type) I have 2 -24 ounce cups...they are 1/3 strength..the little folgers baggies..1 baggie for 24 ounces...and I do that twice...that is to get the bathroom routine motivated.... If it's real coffee from like Starbucks...I sip on it all day long...sometimes 2 days... Also I know Randall Culpepper drinks a lot... Russ

I'm one of those guys who can drink about 2 coffees - dbl/dbls tho - in a day. But I can't handle it after say about 5 or 6 pm....it keeps me up! And that hasn't changed at all, RNY wise....I still drink 2 XL dbl/dbls - oh, we don't have a Starbucks here but in canuck-land, our Tim Hortons coffee stores are everywhere.... Jim

RNY on 09/19/06 with
I drink a few cups in the morning, but have to stop  a noon.  I gotta make sure that I am near a can after I pound the first one, I don't want to end up ****ting my pants in my truck   As for Starbucks??  All I gotta do is walk in the door and smell the beans & I gotta make a run for the crapper

If it has caffine in it, I can't tolerate it.  De-cafe or green tea is my salvation at the moment.  I can drink 16 oz in the morning and another 12-16 at night.  Anything else is water, milk or flavored waters to get my fluids. Rich

I stopped drinking coffee prior to surgery, and didn't have too much of a problem with that, but I really like a hit of caffeine in the morning, and I've never cared for decaffeinated (why bother?) After I was 8 weeks post-op, I started drinking Peet's Coffee again in the AM.  One or two 8oz coffee mugs takes care of me.  It probably takes me 30 min to nurse a cup of coffee.  I put a little skim milk in it, but I always have.  I imagines that being caffeine-free for 2 months, I'd be much more sensitive to caffeine, but that didn't turn out to be so. The other reason I went back to drinking coffee in the morning is that it's almost better than Colace as far as keeping me regular! /Steve

good topic brian,

you know i gave up drinking coffee and about a ton of diet coke daily. did it for the surgery. told caffine would stimulate hunger. plus i sleep much better. but about 6 months or so ago i started drinking coffee again! i have a huge cup in the morning and that's it. unless i'm at home i might have a second cup later in the day. i have to admit, it feels good, gets me going and i don't have hunger from coffee. so i drink it again.

we grind our own from trader joes. french roast and it's strong stuff. if i drink two big cups in a row i get dizzy and sick! so on a big coffee day it's maybe one in the morning and then another from home or starbucks later on. i won't go over that though but found i can still enjoy it.....carbonblob
