Newbie - Lapband on the 14th...
Hi-
I'm scheduled for a lap band on the 14th... Any other lapbanders out there that can give me some presurgery/postsurgery advice and how they've done?
I'm a little nervous about not eating anything solid for 3-4 weeks. (more nervous about that than the surgery itself...)
Anyway... Look forward to posting/replying to this board.
thanks
c
Hello
There are a few of us out here .
I was banded over two years ago .I have lost 125 lbs and love my new life .
It is natural to be nervous .I was and everbody eles was too .This too will pass .If you were not nervous you should be, and if not there's something wrong !
The pre-op diet and post-op diet are hard ; I wont lie .
But the post-op diet is easyer then the pre-op. You WONT be hungry .
( it least I wasent )
Welcome to the locker room and best of luck to ya .
Nick
Welcome c,
I was banded on July 2, 2007 and I am down 88 pounds in 8 months. I guess the best way to give you advice is to hear what your questions are. I have learned to talking to others that there are several ideas out there for eating and such. So if you share your concerns it will be easier to reply.
Congrats and welcome to the locker room. We are saving a spot for you on the Losers' Bench.
Bill
Not a lapper either, but welcome. Please ask any and all questions you have. No question is stupid, except for the one never asked!
Have a great one!!

Hello, and welcome to 'The Locker Room'! I was 'Banded' on January 30, 2007. Starting weight 389, current weight 250 for a total of 139# loss to date, and still losing. The Pre-Op Diet was a challenge, but focus on the goal (Regaining control of my life) got me through it. Post-Op, the band helps immensly. Don't lose focus that the band is just a tool, and like any tool it requires you to use it properly. Follow the rules... No drinks with your meals (As it can wash the food past the band), small portions and really small bites. Chew, chew, chew your food into oblivion. If you do not follow the last rule, the band will remind you to do it next time. Anyhow, Welcome to 'The Locker Room', we will slide down and make room for you on 'The Losers Bench!'. Don't mind the odor, as we tend to pass a lot of gas but that is a good thing!

Hi Chris,
I guess all the Dr's have their own way of doing things. I also had the lapband done on 12/4/06. it was done laproscopic but I had 22 staples. So you should really check with your Dr. and ask him what he plans for you. I never thought to ask and it came as a surprise when I looked under the bandages.
While I'm have success my results are not as good as some of the other guys who have posted. I'm only doen 90 lbs so far. I know a big part of this is that I am alowing some old habits to rear their ugly head. I find myself eating too many cookies at night or I find myself starting some late night eating while watching TV. I know this is part of what got me here in the first place. But at least I'm still losing and not gaining no matter how slow.
Another part that is contributing to my slow loss is that I have terrible knee problems and because of this I have not been exercising. Plus I'm going through a divorce now after being married for 33 years (I know the stress from this is not helping.
On the positive side I find myself eating healthier and making better food choices which I'm sure has helped with my weight loss so far.
But still I must say the band does work, but you must put effort in to it. It won't do it on it's own.
So best of luck to you and may your journey progress positively.
Dan
