For all you bikers...err bicyclers?? mountain bikers?
A buddy of mine that I work with did a coast to coast trip on his bike after he graduated from college. He did it to raise money for Alzheimers and he ended up raising about $3500. He was the only one on the ride. I thought I would share his website with all of you. It sounds like a wonderful thing to do! Maybe when I get in shape I'll take a couple months off and do something like this. I've always wanted to do something that required survival skills and what an awesome way to see our beautiful country! I asked my wife if she'd be interested. She said, "Sure, I'll follow you in the car and pick you up when you pass out!" lol women..

What an amazing trip your friend had, Chris and thanks for sharing the site. I especially enjoyed his write-up of Colorado, especially in regards to the town of Salida which is where I used to live and hope to live again. Like he said in his blog, "once you Salida in, you can't just Salida out." Cool stuff. Boner
Is it pronounced "suh lee duh" or "suh lie duh"? I'm gonna have to put that place of my list of places to go. The type of riding he did is the type of riding I would enjoy doing. I'm not much of one for races but if I could explore the countryside on a bike and just ride for the hell of it then man I think that'd be awesome. I love taking my harley out for a solo ride in the country I can only imagine how much fun a bicycle would be. Perhaps I'll go buy a couple for the wife and I and get started!
What's a good bike to start with? I've looked at a couple sporting goods stores but I really don't know what I'm looking at. I figure I'd drop about 200-300 a piece on a bike. Would that give me a decent ride to start with? I'd also like to ride trails as well.
It's pronounced "suh lie duh" and it is a kayaker's paradise. The Arkansas river runs through it and it is nessled in a valley surrounded by the awe-inspiring Rockies. Your buddy raves about it in his blog.
I just bought a bike off of ebay for a close friend who's also interested in the type of recreational riding you describe. Got him a Specialized rockhopper mountain bike which is a good versatile bike for both road and trails. Cost him a tad under $600 and was pretty much brand new. The guy had bought it, put in a couple hundred $$$ of upgrades, took it out for a couple of rides then figured out he didn't like riding.
Best of luck in your cycyling.

I suppose I could always just spend the money now and if I didn't like it then I could always sell it on craigslist or ebay. I was looking at the Specialized HRXC and the Giant Boulder SE as a decent beginner bike. I think I'm gonna go down to the specialty bike shop in town today and see what they have and what i can learn.
Thanks ; though I cant see it as Im at work and the filter will not let me view it . I will have to check it out when I get home .
I have wanted to ride across Nv to my home town in Ca .
That would be one hell of a trip in it self . That would mesn climbing the Donner summit . Coming from the east would be hard enough do to a long and slow incline. ( for the most part )
Coming home would be double though because I would be starting at sea leavle and the climb would be seemingly endless going back over the summit .
