2 DAYS POST OP & CANT BURP

I'm 2 days post op, and feel like i need to burp so bad, and cant really get it out.  Any suggestions??

Can you blow it out the other end?? Just kidding.... call your doc and ask him what to do - he got paid for it, might as well make him earn his fee   

It was a week or so before I could.  I felt so much better after that.  Some people may not be able to after WLS.  The same with vomit.  Brian

Took me about a week too.  If you having gas issues, eat some Gas-x.  It works. Guy

I thought I was the only one. I am nearing 2 1/2 years from WLS and never have burped like I used to, can't cough or laugh like before either. I asked my WLS surgeon and he said he had never heard of that.  I read somewhere about your diaphragm controlling laughing and coughing and part of the WLS drain that I had in goes right by it.Don't know, I guess it's a small price to pay for otherwise feeling great.  Even though I don't burp much the other exhaust portal works real well!! while in the hospital burping is what saved my life, it was the best way to relieve that chest pressure from lying in bed.  It seems like now I burp a lot more than I used to.  If I eat a little too quick or maybe swallow something too big burping is what saves it from coming back up. Jason

Hey Joshua.  I vaguely remember feeling that too.  I think it was more of the new anatomical arrangements and not so much the need to release gas.   It felt like I needed to burb put it was just the way the stuff was rearranged that made me feel like that.   Either way, ask your doc about it and hopefully they will be able to provide you with an answer.

Josh,     I actually starting burping because of the wls...I think my cpap machine shoves so much air in me, I swallow it while sleeping...if I'm not burpin, I'm farting!...Good luck with your new self!
