Knee injury

Hey, About 10 days ago I restrained a knee ligament that I hurt last summer (basically too much weight on my knees).  I got a little overzealous and started jogging on the treadmill...spent an hour or so, then went to my weight routine, then home.  It was a great day (like 50 degrees in the middle of February in Indiana) so I got the ole bike down and rode another 10 miles or so.  The next day I could feel the damage.  So, now I am only doing my weight routine every other day. I was in a stall before this happened and had been at about 315 pounds for a week or two.  Now after three weeks I have lost about four pounds.  I know this can change tomorrow, but I am concerned about the lack of aerobic exercise.  Besides swimming, any thoughts on how to get in my aerobics while my knee heals? Thanks  guys, CB

Hey C- good questions...how about a hand bike...one of those things that looks like bicycle pedels that you do with your arms...they are nasty hard, but they will keep your heart rate up Russ

Tough one...I was thinking of a rowing machine, but they are hard to find.  Talk to a physical therapist.  Go getem tiger.   Brian

I'm not an exercise physiologist, but maybe you could do a lot of upper body stuff while your knee heals.  Potentially some weights just to keep your strength up so when you get back on your feet (literally) it won't be as difficult and you'll be able to pick up where yo u left off.

I'm the King on knee injuries. (16 knee surgeries since 1986). Get two good knee braces, puching bag and have at it. As long as there is no pain under knee cap , then you will be fine, the punching motion at our size propels the knees forward and the punching will raise your heart rate. I don't know where your pain is at, but most all the time it's the medial (inside area) or the outside of the knee. Be careful but this is the exercise that i can do when my knee's are bad on that day. Good luck. Ken

Thanks Bluedog! I HAVE a punching bag that I haven't used for years.  I love it, just haven't used it in this round of exercise.  Thanks for the reminder! CB
