Hello all, I have posted in other forums, but this is my first time here.  My name is Jeff and I am scheduled for my lapband surgery this Friday.  I am really nervous.  Never had surgery of any kind before.  I could use some suggestions on getting over this and any other help or advice that you guys could give.  I have posted on the lapband forum and got a ton of responses from the women and not much from the guys.  Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Jeff

Congrats on your upcoming surgery and welcome to the Locker Room.  Take a few minutes and read some of the posts here in the Men's Forum and you will see what you are getting into.......a journey of a lifetime, better health, more enjoyable sex just to name a few.  Sure it is normal to be somewhat nervous before surgery.  Just hang in there and remember how much better life is going to be after surgery.  I will keep you in my prayers and I am wishing you the very best!

I can tell you for me it was pretty easy. I trusted my doctor and had a lot of faith in the fact he knows what he is doing. He commented on the fact that I seem relaxed and comfortable right before surgery. I told him What's to worry about, all I have to do is lay there, he is gonna do all the work. I guess I am saying, try to relax, trust your team, and hold on for the ride of a lifetime.

I went in 3 weeks ago.  Showed up at 10:30AM for an 11:30 surgery.  After sitting in the pre-op waiting area for another 2 hours they took me back.  So it's now 1:30 PM and I'm dying of a headache (no liquids or food for over 18 hours at that point) .  My name was called and I was getting hooked up (IV, monitors, etc) and the nurse said they JUST took the last patient (a bander) into the OR.  I started worrying it was going to take 2 hours more.  Turns out within 30 minutes, they wrapped up the previous person's lapband surgery and in I went. Moral of the story, it will be WAY OVER before you even know it.  Do not focus or overworry about anything.  It's a piece of cake. (no pun) Just make an effort to get out of the bed as soon as your physically able.  It will pass the time your in the hospital. Good luck to you. Guy

Jeff - congrats on your upcoming surgery. There arent a lot of us Band guys here, but here in the Mens room, I have found everyone to be supportive regardless of surgery type (unlike most of the other boards here on OH). Let me know if you have any questions along the way.

Welcome Jeff, My best advice is to use the pain meds they have for you and get up and get moving as soon as possible. I didn't wait for them to tell me it was time, I had to get up to **** and I took my first of many walks at about 2 1/2 hours after surgery. First one was just down the hall and back and worked my way up to laps aroune the entire floor. Good Luck! pan head

Congrats on your decision to make a positive change in your life Jeff.  You've found the right place for support, estrogen free!  :)

Being nervous is normal and if you weren't nervous I would advise you to reconsider your decision.   It's not a quick fix by any means but if you use your new tool right you are guaranteed to be successful.

Best of luck with your surgery and on your weight loss journey man.

Chad.
