Travel and Food question

I am having surgery on March 24 and have been trying to start the lifestyle now so I can get all the kinks out before I have surgery.  I travel constantly I'm usually in a different city everyweek.  I usually stay in a room with a fridge so I can keep somethings there but I'm on the road all day. Any tips on what foods I could carry with me or how to eat out at restaurants would be helpful.  As I look at the menus most have fish or chicken but they are covered in all kinds of sauces etc.... Your help would be greatly appreciated.

TP,  i carry Slim Fast Low Carb diet shakes with me all the time.  They are high in protein and low in sugar, only one gram per serving and they will keep you satisfied.  As far as eating out, have them box half your order before you even see it and serve you the other half, or see if you can order a childs portion.  it looks kinky but who cares if it is in your best interest.  Hope this helps! Hey TPinTN, Wendy's chili is good, but if you plan on traveling within your pureed stage, You will want to make sure you do some serious chewin....  I'd suggest carrying on a mini-food processor, but that might land you in some trouble getting on the plane. And you could always get the fish or chicken cooked without sauces in a small amount of OJ.  Most restaurants are happy to prep it that way for you.  Same thing goes for Scallops, shrimp, other shellfish as well.  If you like seafood, they are good protein selections and can usually be prepared without the butter or sauces. I'm only 3 weeks out and will start traveling again soon.  When I cross into the solid food stage, I'll make sure I have some beef jerky in the briefcase in case I have issues finding something. Good luck Guy
Play hard or go home.

A few things come to mind.  The first month or two your pouch really has to adjust.  Try everything new by tasting and asking the pouch if it likes the new item.  It will let you know within minutes.  Eat slowly too, because you never know when the pouch could reject the item or you could get the "foamies".  I am on the road alot as a security guard.  I may have to sit in my truck for up to 10-12 hours while watching a post.  I carry with me beef jerkey, dry roasted peanuts, plain almonds & walnuts, a can of chicken or turkey vegetable soup.  Beef is very difficult to digest the first few months.  The same with pork and lamb.  Stick with lean beef when you start it.  Also consider a cooler chest for some cooked vegetables (spinach is great or some mixed veggies).  Carry in baggies some of your protein shake too.  Also a can of pop top tuna or chicken salads.  Good luck, Brian

According to what stage you are in I would not get to crazy on the road. I would just stick with what works for you and you won't really know that till after surgery. In the first stages on all liqids will be easy. The next stage take a strainer and your favorite cream of what ever soup. When it comes time to eating out restaurants are there to serve you. Most will be more than happy to fix it how you want it if you just ask. pan head

For me, it got easier and easier when traveling. At every store you can find cans of soup, protein bars, etc.  If you stay in a hotel with a microwave, I would just pop it in there.  If it was a business trip, I would order soups, foods that were moist, etc. Don't worry. The more you explore, it'll be so much easier.  I personally thought it was going to be challenging but it was not. At every mall and every corner, you should be able to find a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe to get your liquid protein. You'll do great!
