Well, my two cents .. I was at your colleague's same starting weight and there is no way I would have felt confident I could get as much weight off with the band as I did with DS and, more importantly, keep it off .. i had read stats that the average bander loss is about 50-60 pounds @ 2 years out (although there are always exceptions to the general rule, some quite exceptional) .. I knew I would need not only a restrictive component of WLS but also a malabsorptive one to get the mission accomplished, with over 200 pounds to lose .. Your colleague might be one of the 200 lb. exceptions to banding, but if it were me and I had the $$ resources available to go with DS that is the route I would go ..
