Protein Shakes consuming time

Hello; I've been a lurker here for quite sometime. Had my open RNY 2-12-08. One question I have is, how long does it take most of you to finish a 8oz protein shake??? If I sip at one for 1-11/2 hrs I feel like im full to the rim!!! Is this normal???

I had my lap RNY on 2-5-08, and as I've posted here recently, I have just about ZERO restriction.  I have had protein drinks in the morning every other day or so.  They're about 6 oz (2 scoops- 48 grams protein) and I can finish them in less than 10 minutes.  I even tried making them super thick to see if it will stick around a little longer and no luck. Although I still feel NO HUNGER, I feel like I should have restriction by now. Have you tried making the shakes thicker?  You'll still get the protein without the liquid. Guy

Sounds normal to me.  At that time post op if i tried to hurry or push anything i was in for trouble.  Just keep sipping.  Be gald u can tolerate the protien drink.  Even now I have to make mine as small as possible so i can drink it with my nose plugged, in one long swallow.  The smell gets me way before the taste. It gets better.  For me it was about a month out and i noticed i could drink a little more and not have problems. Jim D

I couldn't tolerate the protein supplements, either.  One scoop of stuff (23 grams protein, 2 grams sugar) in 6-8 ounces of liquid left me feeling like I'd just eaten about 5 Big Mac value meals, supersized.  Even if I spread it out over a very long time. I'd say it's pretty normal.  If you can tolerate it, do what you can, because you need the protein.  As said above, it gets better, much better.  I'm just over 2 months out, I'm not having nearly the issues I did a while back.  I feel pretty normal, all in all, just can't hardly eat anything and I'm full.
