So I got a date for the good old Psych eval. 2-29-08. I got the date yesterday then they gave me a second date of eval on 3-24-08. What ? Two dates for psych? Well I found out last night at my first support group meeting I will see him then take a psych test then go back a second time for the eval of the  tests. Well today the weather was really bad out so I called to see if there were any cancellations.... sure enough there were and I went today at 11:15AM and met with Dr. Sabapathy Then took a psych test. I will go back for a review of the test on 2-29-08. He told me he believes I am stable and he does not have any concerns after first meeting with me. He also said as long as the test results come back okay,  he would probably not have to see me again and would probably recommend me for surgery! So I left there and tried to see if the dietitian had any cancellations but they did not. so I still have to wait till 3-14-08 for that.

Wow, I've never heard of a written psych exam. What kind of questions were on it? How long was it? Mine was just a 30 minute or so chat with a lady who asked me why I needed WLS, had I dieted before, did I ever hear voices (nah, just kidding on that one)  Best of luck, Boner

it was a test to get into your head. there would be three scenrios and you had to pick the best one that fit you. such as sleep. would you say you always got enough? sometimes enough? never enough? stupid **** like that. have you ever thought f suicide **** like that. We also talked and asked the general questions like why I thought I would like WLS, what was my family life like have I ever been abused or abused myself? I thought about telling him I abuse myself when my wifes not around? But I refrained from any crude jokes. the tests took about 20-30 min and we talked for like 20 min. So he said I seem like a stable minded person but we would have to wait for the tests to come back before he could release me for surgery.

Mine was a 3 part deal. Met with him for an hour the first time and discussed my struggle with my weight, past weight loss attempts, what I expect from the surgery, etc.  The next day I had to go back and take a 2 part written test that took 2 1/2 hours.  Then I had to go back a week later for follow-up and discuss my results.  He said I had some depression that was a result of my obesity and it's effects on my quality of life, which is "normal". He wrote his evaluation stating that in his opinion the loss of weight resulting from the surgery would lessen my depression and improve my quality of life. He 100% recommended me for surgery.

It was great to see you again last evening at group.  I told Sandra that her group is a little wilder than mine.  Guess it is because it is so much smaller.  I try to go with her so you are no so out numbered.  Glad to hear you got in to see Dr. Sabapathy.  I really enjoyed talking with him when I went to see him.  I saw him several times after surgery.  I think the reason has come to fulfillment with them using Sandra and I a speakers for the program.   Bill

Hey at least he'll either recommend you for surgery or therapy !     . Best of luck with your results and WLS, I'm sure you wont have any problems.  Isn't it rediculous some of the questions they ask you?  You already know you just have to give them the answers they're looking for.    Dan

My evaluation was all verbal & a 45 minute, one visit deal.  What a waste of time...the questions included , Do you ever feel like mudering anyone?  Like anyone would answer yes?  Keep plugging away at it.  I think the insurance companies do what they can do discourage patients. Keep the faith, you'll get through it. Mark
