Just read a post below about muscle mass and one of the observations was 200 grams of protien. I'm 9 months out and without a couple of shakes I have a hare time with 100 grams. How do you guys do it? Maby I'm not eating enough because as I've posted last week I've been the same weight for over 6 weeks.

being the responsible person i am, i have to say i'm full of crap. oh, i'm great at telling other people what to do though. fact is, i can't get that much in either and i'm over two years out. at best, i can do two shakes a day and that's it. as of late i only have one every other day. i'm trying to get more natural protein in. the shakes make me sick. i really can't do them anymore. when i have shake, i drink it super slow. i mix all my other crap in there and just take it slow. these drinks cause gas to build up so try drinking slower. don't go for more than 50 grams at a time either or you just **** it out. now you've motivated me to get back on track and drink two a day. i can easily eat the other 100 grams. just remember, protein first and you ought to get your fill. it's pretty easy to get the daily amount but for lifting, there's no way around shakes.....carbonblob

"these drinks cause gas..." CB:  Is this a common thing, to your knowledge?  I mean, it seems like I have enough gas to fill the Hindenburg, but I just kinda figured that was the nature of the RnY beast. I was temp. lactose-intolerant, so I used the soy protein powder cr*p at first.   Later I could tolerate the whey, AND solid protein was giving me the foamies and/or making me gack.   So I started using the whey powder pretty much every day as my main protein source.

Hey guys, How about the 42 gram bullet  "New Whey" shot between meals?  If you could stick in 3 per day and add in the meal protein, you could probably get to 200.  It would be costly, but maybe worth it. Or better off, stick with the AAS idea Guy

3 double-scoops of whey protein isolate mixed into 10 -12 oz. water...this equals 144 grams of protein.  Begin in the morning and consume approximately 3 oz at a time 4 times across the entire day.  Not a chore at all to get it all in.  Once protein through meals is taken into account total intake is approaching 200 grams.  RNY'rs we know malabsorb so it's best to exceed desired amounts if possible.  Following the steps above should allow one to absorb sufficient amounts of protein conducive to building muscle mass. I always put a disclaimer on stuff like this...this is what worked for me...we're all unique and what works for one may not work for another. Cards Fan

I get in about 200g of protein a day while using just one 23g protein powder scoop each morning in my oatmeal.
The rest of my diet has a good amount of fish, white meat chicken, nuts, lean beef, egg whites, skim milk & a litlle soy... of course, I do eat about 3200 calories a day though!

Seems like about the time I go over 100 grams of protein, I also go over 1200 calories so I rarely go much over 100 grams per day. Until I start lifting again I'm not convinced that I need to. I guess a fellow could limit himself to foods that have an extremely high protein/fat ratio and do better than that, but right now I'm enjoying a pretty good variety of food. Probably ought to cut back on the cheese a little bit.
