I been Lurking!
Hey Guys,
I have been dropping by from time to time lurking and learning. I almost decided to not get the surgery. I couldn't lose enough weight to get approved for surgey. Then on the 20th of Jan the Doc gave me Meridia and put me on Optifast 800 and I am now down 25 lbs. Next week I get mine done. on the 13th. Weight loss is pretty exciting!!
Aloha
When I first tried to get RNY in the Spring of 2000, my first prospective surgeon wouldn't operate because I couldn't lose 50 lbs. But, he referred me to another surgeon. The 2nd surgeon didn't understand the need to lose weight prior to the RNY. He said that's the whole reason for the surgery. He was the president of the Assoc of Bariatric Surgeons at the time so I figured he knew what he was talking about. As it turned out, I was relaxed and manage to lose some weight before he did the RNY.
Now it seems to be a non-medical requirement of most ins companies. I guess it's one way of discouraging some people from getting the surgery. I did have to show proof that I had been on a 6 month medically supervised diet.
I'm glad you've gone from lurking to posting.
Best of luck with your WLS. It's really helpful to get the weight loss ball rolling prior to surgery since it will make the post-WLS transition to eating right/less much easier. That's why insurance companies say they require a 3-6 month pre-WLS diet and exercise program. They want you to be successful or so they say. Probably not true from their perspective but it's still a great idea imo.
Boner
OT but had to congrat the Tide on a great recruiting class. Amazing!! The Buffs had a great class as well getting the top running back in the country. Like I said, big things ahead for both the Buffs and Tide. Saban and Hawkins are excellent coaches. By the way, I work with Nick Sabans cousin. He is the legendary Lou "Half a loaf" Saban's grandson. Google half a loaf for a good hoot especially for us Bronco fans.

Yep Boner, the Tide and Buffs landed great recruiting classes for sure.
Hopefully, that will translate to a better team and more wins for both in the next couple of years. Bama fans are tired of the inconsistency in our program and definitely do not like being mediocre. Hopefully Coach Saban will take us back to familiar territory at the top of the SEC and in college football. IMO, Hawkins indeed seems to be an excellent coach too. Things are lookin' up in Bama and Colorada!
