Where to find actual stats

Hey fellas, anyone know where to find the actual stats concerning Lap RNY?  Stuff like total mortality rates, types and percentages of complications, etc. I have been looking all over the net and haven't found honest-to-God stats yet. I mean from the AMA, CDC or some "official" records. I found plenty of stats quoted by folks on boards and forum groups, but nothing official. Thanks!

Hey Bama, If you go to this link:  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez  , and search for Gastric Bypass or RNY, you'll find a TON of articles. Didn't sift through them all, but the statical answers are bound to be there.  Here are a few good ones concerning various subjects: Outcomes of RNY:  http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?tool=pmc entrez&artid=1421184 Risks:   http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?tool=pmc entrez&artid=1570562 Male Gender Predictors:  http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?tool=pmc entrez&artid=1422615 These are long articles, very scientific, so read before going to bed. Others can also chime in with more reader friendly text. Good Luck

I would add that the UCLA Medical Center from December 1993 until June 2000 is rather dated. A hell of a lot of advances have been made in the last 8 years alone and certainly since ’93. From a 2007 article- http://www.healthgrades.com/media/DMS/pdf/HG2006BariatricStu dyRelease.pdf

"The average U.S. mortality rate during the study period (2002 to 2004) was 0.19 percent, or two patients per 1000."

Individual hospitals and surgeons vary wildly on complication rates. If you want "The Scoop" on a specific Doc or Hospital, Checkout- http://www.healthgrades.com/

They offer a (for fee) very comprehensive info list for almost every surgeon in almost every field. They also have many articles about top hospitals and surgeons. Up to date info.

Hope that helps. Best Wishes- Dx AND- PubMed is always a Great place to start reading---- Bariatric/Complication Rates found on PubMed at- PubMedResults-on-Bariatric-Complication-Rates
