Depression coming on strong, HELP!

There is no fast and easy solution as it is part body chemistry and part habit, with one reinforcing the other (armchair diagnosis). I would recommend a goal of 21 days of jogging or weight lifting. Even if it's only 20 minutes a day. That should get you back in the habit and return your love of exercise.

Hope you feel better soon,

Dave

Want to thank you all for your advice.

I think I posted this because I was looking for an easy way out. Deep down inside, I new that I have to stop the booze and start working out again. I always try the easy then the hard.

Well I am going to dry out, go back to the GYM. I have worked to hard to get where I am at.

Again Thanks, the locker room is great

I have found that eating a higher level of carbs is almost as depressing as drinking alcohol.  Carbs take away my energy and makes me crave even more carbs.  I have an easier time of staying away from alcohol than carbs.  I feel so much better when keep my carbs low and stick to my Dx inspired passive exercise routine: I do push ups waiting for the shower to warm up, park far away from the door ways at stores and at work, and take travel up and down the three flights of stairs at work every oppertunity I can.

Poor men want to be rich, rich men want to be king.
And a king ain't satisfied 'till they rules everything.

You may wish to consider attending a WLS support group if you don't already do that.  I know that women generally outnumber the men but I still find the meetings uplifting when I am able to attend.  El Camino Hospital in Mountain View holds meetings the 3rd Thursday of each month and is attended by their WLS RN and a nutritionist, both of whom are excellent resources and FREE at the meetings.  You can get a handle on your TEMPORARY problem and end up back on track.  Good Luck.

hey man, come on, you know what you gotta do. i can't add any better advice than has been given except maybe make the gym a challange. getting off the booze is a given as is taking all you supps too. so that just leaves the exercise. you know, try going for heavy. nothing makes you feel better than surpassing a personal best. try a heavy bench or squat. even better, go to the gym and try something new or a whole new routine, new machines etc. shake it up. i would do something you've never done, maybe try running or swimming. point is to try something that shakes your tree or has a goal at the end. next, try making a short term goal, maybe three months out you want an extra inch on your arms or something. write it down, tape it to the fridge, whatever it takes to keep you focused. sometimes that's all we need is a goal to work towards.

for me? i have to workout or i get depressed too. it's my release plus it sends endorphines out which simply make you feel better. when i get stale i'll shake up my routine. when i run i take the dogs and we just blaze all over the canyons. point is to keep it all fresh. simple answer i know but sometimes simple is all it takes. like the other posters said, you can get an imbalance super easy so stay on your schedule with supps and vits. real important stuff. you know, try going to some workout websites to get motivated too. i do that just to try new routines and such. let us know how you're doing.....carbonblob

When I get depressed which I try not to let my self do.  I just think of this one kid that I coached in youth hockey.  At age 5 he was diagnosed with cancer.  From the age of 5 till he passed at the age of 13 he never ever once showed the pain that the cancer took on his young body.  He always had a simle on his face and he enjoyed everyday.  He has been gone about 10 years now.  He would have just graduated from college. You have been given a great gift.  Pick yourself up and get your ass in gear.  When you are depressed think of MICHAEL.  I am sure that he will give you a little help from above.
