Good morning.  Because of my size and weight, I have always had trouble finding good running/walking shoes.  I found this site online a while ago and have been able to find anything I need in sports shoes at a very good price.  i have nothing to do with them, but they have good New Balance shoes at a very good price.  You can even look up by size and width just to see exactly what they have in stock. http://www.joesnewbalanceoutlet.com/default.htm Good luck. I think that with running shoes you kind of do need to spend some cash.  Most of the "experts" agree that you do get what you pay for.  If you live in Oregon, you should have no problem finding a running shoe store that will put you in a great pair.  After you buy one from them, you can find that pair on the internet for less $.  I go to my shoe guy twice a year and shop on the net for the other two or three pair I will need.

Huge difference for me. I don't call my self a runner, but I have been doing some running.  I went to a local running shop, all they sell are running and walking shoes, and was fitted for a pair of running shoes. By fitting I mean they looked at my feet and how I walked, my stride, my arches and measured my feet. They then had me to try one brand of shoe on one foot and another on the other, walked around a bit and told him what I thought of each one. Eliminated one brand and then replaced it with another. When I narrowed it to one brand that felt the best he had me to put on the mate to it. He then had me to get on a treadmill and walk or run for a while, my choice, and then tell me how they felt. One thing I found out I didn't know is that I have one foot a half size bigger than the other. I had already done some research on the net about what type of shoe I needed, they confirmed what I had found out and helped me get the right pair of shoes. I paid $90 for a pair Brooks, which in the retail market was a good price. After wearing these and using them for a week or two I bought another pair off ebay and saved $30. I keep the second pair and work and walk in them every day at lunch. Saves me from having to remember to grab my shoes every day. I would highly  recomend going finding a place that knows how to fit you for a pair of shoes. The farthest I have ran now is 3.75 miles, but my feet were fine. Of course your mileage may vary. pan head

good stuff,..if I may continue the recommendations. I started walking post op with wal-mart ($20-30)sneakers.  After I got to where I was going regularly and up to the 2+ miles a day I upgraded to NB at the local A&N store ($40-50).  From past days experience and relearning stuff about improving distance and time, the foam collapses with use and 2 pairs are recoemmended to alternate between days so the foam in the soles and espciallythe heels recovers.  Still, depending on weight, shoes loose their resilency for jogging/running around 300 miles of use or 4-6 months.  I am now on my thrid pair of shoes since WLS and I took the step up after learnig my A&N store was geting out of the shoe business in this area.  I found a running store nearby and wound up with two pairs of Asics; Fortitude 2 and Nimbus 9.  They are like running on clouds.  The shoe architecture encourages my forefoot to roll forward onto my toes during the mid to later part of my stride and the heel to bounce up at the end of the stride so ther is a littel more kick to my step when I'm not focusing on it anyways. I really like them,..but did pay more ($90 for the F2 and $120 for the N9).  It sure makes it easier to get out and go too when your feet and shins are happy and don't mind the work.  Now if I could get the compression shorts compressing in the right place and out of my butt,.......

Great advice already bro.   Definately don't shortchange yourself on shoes.  Visit a local running shoe store and have them look at your walk, stride and arch and let them 'fit' you for a pair.   You may pay a little more but your knees, shins, calves and ankles will thank you.

Congrats on the 5K too!  That's awesome.

Wanted to thank you all for all the great advice on this. I will be out this weekend and try to find a good running store. The response was nothing less than I expected from you guys, and again, thank you for all the input.
