I am a 6 weeks post op, doing well and feeling fine, but I have had several Blood labs done and my white blood cell, Neutraphil absolute, and BUN counts are low.  They are so low that my WLS surgeon has me to see a hematologist.   Has any one had this problem or anything similar. They are having me to take stool samples, to make sure that I am not loosing blood my digestive track.  Also they took blood again, This was the 3rd time post surgery, I am starting to feel like a pin cusion.   Tell me your experiances. My wife ha**** the internet and has diagnosed me with about 200 auto-imune defficencies. ( I am watching out for her to come home with the plastic bubble next)

Hope you get a quick diagnosis and fix from the hematologist.  It very well could be Two different issues that just so happen to coincide. I had a very low White Blood Cell and ANC early on. Mine was from all of the antibiotics they had me on. Used Biaxin lately?  Or any “broad Spectrum” anti-biotic? Some Antibiotics can cause white blood cell and ANC (absolute neutrophil count) to drop.   I was on a lot of antibiotics, but even the typical ‘early post-op’ antibiotic regime can cause a drop in the white blood cell count.  Particularly if other drugs interact. The low BUN levels aren’t real common.  Sometimes kidney problem. They may pop up with liver disease, and malnutrition-   Even though the BUN test is not usually used to diagnose or monitor these problems.  BUN levels can drop low as a result of low protein diet. Are you getting in enough protein?  The liver during rapid weight-loss is often very stressed particularly if other liver issues are present. Any docs check for Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) prior to surgery?  It is Very Common among the Obese and morbidly obese.  Just my knee jerk thoughts. I had the low ANC/White Blood Cell thing post-op, and have seen Liver issues kick out low BUN levels in others. But, it could be a whole list of other things. Good that your doc passed you on to a hematologist.  Best to have a pro on board asap, in case it’s something serious. Hollar back when you get a Diagnosis.  Particularly if it’s WLS related so other guys in the future can watch out for that creaky step while on their way. Best Wishes- Dx

I hope you are past all of those problems now...

Hello, had my sleeve June 15, 2015.  Had my 6 month post op visit and the weight loss was excellent.  But my blood count was not.  They said my wbc was low 3.2 and was vitamin d deficient, b-12 deficient , aniemic and losing muscle.  I have been exercising 3 to 4 times a week most of the time.  Started lifting weights and feel pretty good.  But know I am scared.  They want me to see a hematologist.  I had a high and went to a low within 10 minutes.  My highest weight was in February of 2015 (400lbs) and weight in January 21, at(301 lbs)  but then got the news about my wbc.  I must admit that at times I may not have been getting all my proteins in and taking my vitamins as routinely but since then has been making an effort to do better.  Have you or anyone that you know have had any issues with low wbc counts.

Sorry I can't offer any good advice other than to perhaps encourage your wife to hold off on the plastic bubble  for awhile yet. Keep us posted OK? Doug
