Theatrical Scenic Designer here. (talk about odd career choice) Had an RNY Laproscopic, then an emergency Bowel reconstruction and ongoing surgical intervention To remove necrotic tissue and repair leaks and such For about 3 to 5 weeks. (profile...icky story with a happy ending) I freelance all over the country and serve as Professor of Theatre Arts, Director of the Design Program at a University. I did so at nearly 400lbs, and have continued to do so since dropping to a Normal Range BMI. It's just SO MUCH EASIER Now. Flying is now a pleasant experience Rather than a hassle.
"How soon back to work?" Well, I was drawing in the ICU on a sketch pad And passing it on to my assistants to Convert into computer drafting. I was on heavy Morphine and still drawing like a wild man. Morphine and ICU Psychosis didn't stop Creative juices in the area of Design. Some great and wacky ideas came out during that time. As for when I was "back as usual?" My case was rare, but I was "off" for over 6 months. A Semester and a half away from the university setting And then, lectured from a chair while wearing pajama bottoms For a few months. (Gotta Love "the Arts!" Eccentricity is embraced.) If I had been in a typical field of study Or a corporate position, I would have been financially ruined by my complications. As it was, there were no "job related" drawbacks what so ever.
When you get the info and cross-reference the numbers on this survey- Report back with what you find? Curiosity kills cats, but does fine for me.

Before I moved here to Missouri, I lived in Pennsylvania and worked in an amusement park,(Hershey Park). I worked there 8 years, spent 6 of the years out in the park as a ride operator. The last 2 years I was promoted to the rides operations office, as office manager. In those years my weight range was 400-500 pound and spending those first 6 years on my feet all day standing on concrete took it’s toll on my legs and I developed severe lymphedema in my legs and had to go on disability and haven’t worked since. However now that I had my WLS and lost weight my lymphedema in my legs are almost gone, and I am going back to school. I am taking a 2 year program Electronic Media Production to be able to work in the either TV or radio station field. Also since I live close to Branson Mo. I may even look for a job in one of the stage shows in sound or lighting. When I was young I use to be involved in the local community theater and did stuff like sound and lighting and set building. If all goes as planned I will start school in the summer.
