weighing every day

I try not to, but I do find myself weighing every day. I have posted before that I only record my weight on a weekly basis and this is a better way to track my weight loss.  I read an article the other day that said that people that were trying to maintain a weight did better by weighing every day. It confirms what Dx has said about weighing every day and if he sees the scales moving up adjusting his diet accordingly. That is pretty much what the article said, people that weigh every tend to catch any weight gain quicker and do something about sooner, where as if you are trying to maintain a weight and weigh weekly or even monthly you don't tend to catch it as quickly and take action.  I would stress again that this was for people that wants to maintain there present weight.  pan head

PH, So I'm not completely crazy with my opinions... (at least about this topic) For my first 2 years Post-op I weighed every morning like it was A religious commandment! Even coming up on year 5 I probably weigh at least 2 to 3 mornings a week. Losing over 200lbs was hard. Losing 1 lb is no problem. If I catch a "trend" showing up on my scales, Tiny effort is required to change it.

Weighing often does drive some crazy And cause them to angst about every half pound. For those, I'd say maybe stay off the daily scales But do keep checking in maybe weekly, to make sure weight isn't creeping back....

Best Wishes- Dx

I use to weght EVERYDAY, I got so down on myself once cause I put on 2 pounds. DX, Paul, Carbonblob, Russ and everyone else were very supportive and all stressed to weigh once a week, if not once every two weeks. Not only do these guys no there **** but they are all there for each other. I take everyone's opinion here with the same weight as my Dr....  These guys rock!

pretty much what chris just posted. i used to be like Dx and go for it first thing everyday. i did that up until a few months back. two things made me stop doing that. i started eating again after going off pain meds and i stepped up my lifting to the heavy phase. the scale really started moving. i got pissed and crazed. i knew in my head that muscle was going to weigh more plus i knew there would some kind of gain back as i could eat more and liked to eat more crap as well.

so i got off the scale and sometimes don't even weigh for a month! i'll tell you, i can weigh withing five pounds just over water or a big crap! also, the creatine added weight. so.....now i go by inches, if clothes get tight, i get into action. lifting heavier is just going to put on pounds so i can't go by that anymore. also, i still have a four pack. when that starts to disappear, then i get active with whatever it takes to get back. since i got off the scale i make sure to add cardio everyday.

so at some point the scale will probably drive you nuts unless you can maintain the same weight forever. if it motivates you to watch your intake then great, if it drives you crazy then step away. it drove me crazy!

At 18 months into the journey, I still weigh every single day. Sometimes I will weigh several times a day. Hey, I just enjoy seeing the low number. I do get frustrated when I gain, but it helps me make adjustments to get the weight back down.  Ron
