I have my class A...Don't use it. Over the years I would read the obituaries. It seemed all the truck drivers were dying in their 60's. Bad food, little exercise, stress from the road. It really is a tough life, even after WLS. You get to the truck stop and all you want to do is crash...wind down. Don't have the answer. I had the opportunity, but chose a different route and I took it. Brian
Have you considered going in to oilfield trucking? I don't know what part of LA you're in or if there's much production near you, but oilfield truckers mostly work close enough to home that they can get home and avoid truck stop cuisine and get a little exercise in here an there. If you get in to hauling water or into waste disposal, there's actually a bit of exercise in hauling hoses and fittings and hooking everything together plus it's mostly short runs and you're in an and out of your tractor all day long. Don't know if that's an option for you or not. I know I've done a couple of years of water haulin' and there's no way I could sit still long enough to be OTR.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
I know the drivers for my company are home most every night and they get lots of exercise. I made a carrier change 15 years ago and kept my CDL so I would have something to fall back on if anything ever happened. Good thing I kept it to because it came in handy for a year and a half. I wouldn’t recommend cement but if you can get on with a cement company you can haul the powder cement to the plants which pays good. Plus must of the time you home everyday, just a little dirty.
