Well, guys I just did a little searching around on the websites of fastfood joints I would stop at and found the info on some of my favorite items.  For example, a favorite stop would be Hardee's in the morning on the way to work and get the 2 for $2.50 special of 2 Sauage, Egg biscuits.  Each sandwich had 610 calories and 44g of fat.  So i was starting my day with 1220 calories. (more than I have probably consumed since surgery on a liquid diet)  I liked it because it was cheap and fast, however it was costing my life and well-being and the only thing fast about it was causing me to sprint towards the grave. How about lunch, Same resturant 1/2 pound six dollar burger 1060 calories and a side of fries 430 calories and of course a diet coke.  I could easily do both of those meals in the day and then head home for a large dinner, various snacks, and dessert.  What in the world.  The sad thing is I know better, I knew this same info then and it still did not stop me, WHAT AN IDIOT!  I used to think a splurge now and then won't hurt, but splurging was at least 2-3 times a week. The difference between what our head wants and what our bodies need is amazing.  I have not chewed anything in 2008 as of yet (2 week pre-op, 2weeks post op liquid diet) and guess what I have survived (well most of my, over 40 lbs has died and vanished) In my life the tool (RNY) is giving me the upper hand to bring the mind back in control.  I am pumped about the next year.  My greatest accomplishment will not be losing pounds, but at the end hopefully having trained my mind to eat like a normal person, more importantly to eat in such a way that is more profitable to my health and productivity. The meals I described above are not splurges, but gluttony to the fullest.  That menu has nothing to do with taste or need only to fill a selfish need.  Can I say for the rest of my life I will never take a bite of one of the above items, no, but I will never eat that amount again.  I will say this it will not be for a very long time because I will not let those thing rob me of this oppurtunity. Now lets go to the gym! Jason

Amen brother.  I hadn't thought to look any of that stuff up, but I got caught out at a basketball game out of town the other night and the only thing open after the game was a Sonic. I had the Grilled Chicken Wrap cause it looked like about the healthiest thing they had. Grilled chicken, some lettuce, some tomato slices, some good tasting sauce, all in a flour tortilla. I thought about  unrolling the tortilla and just eating the insides but I hadn't eaten in about 9 hours and I caved and ate the whole thing. Looked it up on the intertubes when I got home later that night.......540 calories. Almost half of my calories for that day. I don't know how people who have to eat most of their meals on the road do it.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

There a great book out there called "eat this not that" that compares all the fast food menus and point towards to healthier choices

Hey Jason, For the first year post-WLS, I entered everything I ate into fitday.com. There is a companion website called dietfacts.com which maintains all the nutritional values for most popular restaurants including all the fast food devil dens. So, if I ate a burrito at taco bell, I would go to dietfacts, select it and it would automatically load all the info into fitday. Pretty cool system especially if I ate out at a real restaurant like Sweet Tomatoes, Soup or Salad, etc. Diet Facts has their entire menu.  By doing this, I was able to see exactly how many calories are in a Hardees burger, onion rings etc. Pretty astonishing how crappy fast food is when compared to a good old homecooked meal. What was also amazing to me is how much exercise you have do in order to work off the calories in, say, a super-sized value meal at McDonalds. Lots of work for a moments worth of pleasure so to speak.  Last weekend, I was out on a bike ride and stopped for lunch at a McDonalds. Got a coffee and double cheeseburger. I read the nutrional info on the wrapper and it was like 650 calories or so with tons of fat, salt, etc. Amazing a little 99 cent burger can be so crappy from a nutritional perspective.  Bottom line for me: FAST FOOD IS FRICKIN' EVIL, avoid at all costs.  Boner

Yeah my regular pre-op meal at BK Steak House of a Double Whopper w/cheese, king size fry, king size drink and apple pie topped out at around 2600 calories.   I don't want to even consider the fat, sodium and carbohydrates involved in that meal!

Rediculous when you really think about it.

My only fast food these days are Chick'fil and maybe Arbys once in a blue moon. It's all about moderation and balance. I eat maybe 2000/2500 calories a day now but I also exercise regularly so it all balances out. I still eat maybe a 1/3 of what I use to eat in my preWLS days. I also do not drink anything other than water and coffee with Splenda so I don't have all those extra calories. My food choices are a lot better than before plus I eat a lot of fruit and veggies now and I never eat fried foods anymore. It took me the first 12 months to sort out my daily diet and there are still a lot of thinks that do not taste right to me anymore. Not sure why cutting your plumbing make sure a difference in taste but it's all good in the end.

Fast food is really not worth the money most of the time...it doesn't have enough for the money.  I mostly stick with salad or 4 piece nuggets. Although I do eat fries now and again...and sometimes egg mcmuffins...and when I really want a "treat" i get a mcgriddle.. Honestly though, I don't    count it as protein....because it so high in carbs. Scott
