Bob... I appreciate you taking the time to answer some questions.. and thanks for not flipping the card on me.   My brother is currently in the hospital for heart valve surgery and is in need of weight loss surgery to help him further his life!   He is not able to get to a computer and wanted me to check it out for him!   I thought the "mens" forum was perfect for it...  I understand his journey will be his own...   did you have any trouble leaving behind the foods that you often craved prior to surgery?   He has always had a problem with cokes...   and chocolate... I am so scared I dont know what to tell him...  I am sure he will be fine.. just little things are coming up and he is questioning... I thought the "guys" could help ease him!!!

There are few things I miss. My one big weakness is dark chocolate, and 2-1/2 years out, I can still make myself dump by imbibing. I don't miss pop at all. (RNY patient, FWIW) In general, I've found substitutes for what I can't have. There are some excellent brands of sugar-free cookies that have replaced the sugar laden originals. Wheat bread over white. I avoid greasy food even more than before. He's going to have an easier time if he's motivated to have the surgery. If he's having it because the cardiologist says he needs it, then there's a much bigger risk of failure. This *IS* what the Men's Forum is for. I don't mind the occasional female appearance, especially for situations like this. Just don't get yer knickers in a twist when we burp and fart, and don't bring us any drama.

Rmartell, Baja responded to your first post with a suggestion - that your brother come here to get info first-hand, and a statement of fact - this IS a male locker room.  If you expect to be treated like a ladie's social tea, you WILL be disappointed. Your IMMEDIATE reaction and name-calling is one of the main reasons why most here prefer to keep this an all-male environment. As for your brother:  You said he was scheduled for WLS on March 4th.  If he hasn't started researching this stuff yet on his own, he damn-well better start.  He's WAY overdue!  It's good of you to try and get info for him, and you can relate experiences that are common between men and women.  But face it - you WON'T be able to relate to issues that are uniquely MALE, any more than I can relate to PMS issues, post-WLS.  Also, your brother is having heart-valve surgery now, yet the WLS surgery is to go ahead on March 4th, as planned???  Whoa!!!  He won't even be NEARLY recovered from the heart surgery by then.  I can't imagine why a WLS surgeon would want to put him through ANOTHER major surgery hard on the heels of heart surgery. I sure would have postponed my WLS in that situation.

That was actually one of my concerns about the surgery being so close together... BUT... the heart surgeon is the one who ordered the WLS.    Thank you for your opinion...  much appreciated... the name calling comes for good reason.. instead of shutting people out.. it might be better to allow them to understand first.  Ya'll have your own reasons... I have never before stepped into your locker room... I was doing so for someone in my life that I greatly care about... PMS issues were not my concern... the questions at hand were about a male perspective.. instead the first three basically said GET OUT instead of just answering or suggesting other post to search...    Thanks for your time.. and kind words...    Regards, Romy

Romy,

I can understand that your B's cardio wants your B to have WLS - so did MY cardio!  But WLS 5 weeks after heart valve surgery???  Are the cardio surgeon and the WLS surgeon talking to each other???  (I sure HOPE they're NOT the same person! ) Unlike heart valve repair, WLS is NOT an emergency surgery.  That is, it seems to me that the risks of proceeding with the WLS so soon FAR outweigh any risk of postponing the WLS until your B is more recovered from the heart surgery. Disclaimer:  I'm no doc, but this sounds screwy.  I wouldn't want it for myself, or anybody else either. When your B can get back to a computer, send him here.  We'll snap towels, and fart, and kick his a$$, til he feels right at home!

I tried to ignore this entire thread but couldn't resist letting you know that I nearly pissed my pants when I read this: For the love of everything holy, will you please hit the bricks - Sweetpants??  Take it back to "Tuna Town" (the Main Board).    U da man, Baja!!  By the way, I cried like a frickin' baby before my WLS.
