His opinion of you may not change, But his ability to leverage that opinion with others may. Do you job to the best of your abilities, Be outgoing and essential to the companies success, And you can overtake Mr.X in the view of others. Hey, further up the ladder will allow you a better view Of neighboring companies. It could be once you get nearer the top You would be a valuable addition to one of your companies’ competitors. Just a thought. Any job Worth Having is Worth Leaving for something better. Best Wishes- Dx

Perception is reality in this big old world we live in thus the perception that fat people are weak is indeed reality. I don't fault people who think this since we are all so innodated with this message in our society. No need for vengence imo. This thread reminds me of when, pre-WLS, I was having lunch with an important client in Seattle and the chair I was sitting in broke and I fell on my ass in the middle of the dining room. Needless to say, he and I were both embarrassed and quite frankly, I was humiliated. The incident had nothing to do with my ability to do the job but it certainly negatively impacted our relationship thereafter and I'm convinced it resulted in fewer $$$$ to my company.  Enjoy your new life and take advantage of your physical presence. Here's another example of our societal prejudice against fat people -- the football coach at Kansas, Mark Mangino. Coach Mangino is morbidly obese but more importantly he is a freakin' great football coach as evidenced by turning around a football program which has been morbidly dreadful in my lifetime.  Anywho, I was at a sports bar with some friends watching an undefeated Kansas team take on a once beaten Missouri team. BIG GAME!! There were a bunch of Kansas fans (slender men) sitting next to us and all they could talk about was how FAT their coach was. They didn't talk about the fact that this coach had turned around a football program which had been the butt of unending jokes and sarcasm. Jokes like, "how does a Kansas football fan count to 10? 0-1, 0-2, 0-3......"  Needless to say, I kept getting more and more pissed as I heard these guys joke about their coach but I refrained from letting them have it as my anger managment counseling kicked in.    On the other hand, I ended up rooting for Kansas, whom I typically depise because they are so damn good in BBall, just because their coach was fat.  Bottom line, there is justice in this world as Coach Mangino received the NCAA coach of the year award despite the fact he is obese. Cool!! Boner

Perfect example how society views and treats overweight and obese folks,Boner. I found myself liking Kansas because of Mangino too. I liked seeing the "underdog" (meaning the FAT coach) doing so well.  But the sad fact is that no matter what he or his team accomplished this year, or accomplishes in the future, the girth of Coach Mangino will still be the main topic when Kansas football is discussed.

Fat people face descrimination in the work place as well as the world in general. I personally have experienced it many times. Whenever I have lost weight (I have lost over 100 pounds 3 times in my life), the majority of people actually treated me as though I was a different person. They acted differently - more favorable - towards me. This went for bosses, co-workers, and other folks I knew, as well as for folks I would meet for the first time.  It ain't right, but it is a fact.

I would think it would have the opposite effect. You clearly took his comment to heart and went about trying to fix your "corporate image". Let him think he had something to with the decision, it will stroke his ego. I think  most people  would be proud of your accomplishments and this would actually help you move up, not hinder you.

You can always take the direct approach and talk to him directly about it.
