Since ny RNY , I have totally changed the way I shop, and the way I cook.  The result in this has been great for me, but phenominal for the rest of my family 1:  My wife and kids eats more healthy foods. 2:  My wife goes to the Health center with me every day now, and her energy level has skyrocketed.  The house has been kept clean, the laundry has been getting done, and best of all, she has been very pleasant to be around. 3:My Girls were soda addicts, and fried food junkies.  Now they don't do either.  My oldest daughters complexion is better, and she has lost 5 pounds while getting 2 inches taller.  My youngest daughter was starting to get heavy, but has lost 10 pounds, and her self esteem has improved. all this because of my surgery, so I really did do it for my family as well as myself. I hope you all have a terrific week ahead. The Kevinator

Kevinator, I am hoping to have the same impact on my daughter. She's only 9 and only in the 90th weight percentile, but I can already begin to see the tendencies that affected me as a child. She is such an brilliant straight A student, I don't want weight issues to impact her in any phase of her life. Thanks for sharing and giving me another reason to affirm my decision to have RNY. Guy

our families are our reason for doing most of what we do, and I am happy to share my experiences with you.

My wife began eating like me after my surgery and she has lost over 80 pounds! She is unable to have WLS due to other health issues. I'm impressed and proud of her will-power.  My kids, although grown are trying to improve their health habits, cut down or quit smoking, trying to eat better etc. They have a way to go but at least they seem to be going in the right direction. Certainly we had WLS for us, but what a great spin-off seeing our families trying to become more healthy as well!!!  We should all form a long line. Then look to your right and pull that guys finger and stink up a significant part of the world.

Kevin, Thanks for posting.  This is the exact thing my wife and I have talked about.  She plans to eat the same foods I eat after surgery (except the blended foods) and we will  be feeding my soon the same thing. Growing up I always told my dad I wouldn't be like him and at 38 I have relized I am now like he was.  I want to change that family pattern and teach my son to eat and live healthy. I am proud of what you have done and excited to hear your family has joined in.  You truely have given yourself and them a better life.

This is a great post.

A lot of bariatric surgeons at national meetings are talking about this.  How we will operate on one family member, and the rest of family members benefit from the WL S. patient's nutrition and exercise routine.  It seems like the younger the children are, the more likely they are to imitate the parent who has surgery.  Not only are you helping yourself but you are doing what all guys want to do which is to make sure their families taken care of.  Congratulations on your surgery.  Your family is very lucky to have you.  Good luck to you and good health.

I am very happy that many are experiencing what I am .  last night, my daughters wanted chicken strips.  We made them together, which shows them an alternative way of cooking. We crumpled up some fat free crackers.  Mixed in some sodium free Mrs dash.  Whipped 3 eggs in a bowl.  Dipped the all white meat chicken in the egg and coated lightly with the cracker mixture.  Then I sprayed on some Pam cooking spray and broiled on 1 side till brown.  flipped and did the same to the other side.  The pam crisps them up, and they are delicious.  They all said they are better than restaraunt chicken strips.  We also had red skinned potatoes and corn. Give it a try.  I am sure you'll like them. The Kevinator
