Two weeks post op tomorrow

Hey guys!  I am two weeks post op from my lap RNY.  I had to do a 10 day liquid diet before surgery and I am still on a full liquid diet.  The great news is that from my high weight to now I have lost appx. 37 lbs.  Since I started the liquid diet on Dec. 28 to today I have lost 30 lbs.  Is that too much for such a short period of time (about 24 days)?  I am still trying to get enough water in but I am finding that it is tough.  I can get about 1 to 1 1/2 bottles of water on top of the other liquids I am consuming such as sf jello, sf pudding, and cream of wheat, cream of chicken soup, etc... I did try some mashed potatos last night 1 teaspoon amount and I felt like I was in heaven.  I hope that other soft or pureed foods taste as good to me as the mashed potatos.  Anyway... I am also finding it hard to get more protein in as it just does not taste good to me as an additive to what I do eat.  Any ideas on getting more protein?  Thanks for any advice. Try Muscle Milk's http://www.supplementwarehouse.com/viewitem.asp?idproduct=15 5718 or  Stallone's chocolate pudding.  http://www.amazon.com/Instone-Protein-Pudding-4-Pack-Chocola te/dp/B000W6L0KG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=120085325 7&sr=8-1 Each serving is lactose free, contains 20 grams of high quality protein, with only 2 grams or less of carbohydrates, and 2 grams of fat. The pudding tastes great though the Stallone brand has that metal can taste, but is soft, the MM has a plastic container and is thicker more like a dough.  You can mix it with milk and drink it as a soft shake during your liquid phase.

Steve, You can count all of your liquids, as if they were water.

Need to get in your Protein But are having some difficulty early on consuming enough? I had great success with- Zero Carb Isopure. Comes in 20 oz Glass bottles, Calories - 190, Carbohydrate - 0 g, Protein - 40 g It comes in a number of flavors- Passion Fruit, Apple Melon, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Fruit Punch, Orange, Pineapple Orange Banana, And Mango Peach. On the Down Side- ? All of them have an after taste that is a little like Sucking on Old Pennies. My first thought when tasting it for the first time- "Who peed in this?!?" The Upside? Cut it half and half with some Crystal-Lite And the flavor is hidden completely. Don’t try to get it all down at once either, Just have a little, 4 to 5 times a day. You get in more "water" this way and Slowly "trickling" it into your system insures you Get the maximum benefit / absorption from the protein. NewWhey Shots are also good. Look like "test-tubes" filled with kool-aide. As "shooters" they are simple. Just slam down 2.9oz of liquid for 25gms protein. Same as the Isopure, you can cut them with water of Crystal-lite And never even notice the taste. If you’ve got a GNC store nearby, stop in and buy a few. It is cheaper to shop around on the net And order a case, but only after you know that you will use it. I found the Orange, mixed with Crystal-Lite Lemonade Was great and so was the Mango Peach Mixed with Crystal-Lite’s Peach Tea. Just thought I’d share what worked well for me. Best Wishes- Dx

You'll probably end up having to try various protein supplements to see what you like well enough to stick with.  Most of us have used several at one time or another during our WLS journey. Personally,  I found that I hated mixes and couldn't make myself take them regularly so I tried the liquid proteins.  GNC has a good one that comes in a quart bottle and IDS has a line of protein "shots" that  are pre measured and packaged into plastic bullets that are really easy to carry and store.  No muss, no fuss.  They come in either 25 G or 42 G sizes.  I normally order the 42's and then do half in the am and half in the pm.  They can be mixed into drinks like Crystal Light really well and you barely notice them.  Here's a link to where I've bought them. http://www.vigorousliving.com/idssports.html GNC carries the IDS product and have one of their own.  Here's a link to that as well.  They currently have a buy one get one 50% off.  The GNC product doesn't taste as good as the New Whey but the good thing about liquid proteins is that they are easy to take) http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133679&cp&sr=1&origkw=liquid+protein&kw=liquid+protein&parentPage=search and GNC's Also, the GNC liquid protein has more carbs than the New Whey but overall is less $.  I go for the New Whey  most of the time. I'm using a product from GNC called "Lean Body". It comes in a half liter wax carton premixed, 40 g protein, 9 g fat, don't recall the carbs but they're low, and about 240 calories. If you can tolerate Slim Fast then you'll like these. I cut mine about 50/50 with 1% milk just to get a little more protein and liquid in, plus I don't care for the thickness. You're getting lots of good infor here. Good luck with your experimentation.
