VSG on 04/16/08 with
I am a higher BMI  55 or so I have been approved for RNY surgury but my PCP would sign off as my Blood sugar was over 200 and wanted to wait and try new meds  well i'm in the 130's now. I have another appt with him in April to see if he will appove then.   I really wanted the vsg  but my insurance would not approve.  I checked with the Mexico doctors  andt they did not want to procede due to some previous surgury I had as result of a accident.  The Dr here did not think it would be a problem but I understood the Dr. A's concerns.  OK  here is the option that has came about. We changed insurance carriers jan 1  still will cover wls  but  they are also a partner with Mayo Clinic.  The Dr. i met with before does the VSG and RNY but not the DS.  Mayo clinic does the DS.  I have heard of cases where people do the first part of the DS  ( VSG)  and then don't go back for the second part.  the time line would be the same if I stay with the current doctor or start with the Mayo clinic.   What you guys think? Just re-read this and it is long   sorry

With your BMI, and your blood sugar in control, I am sure you will be approved for any surgery your PCP or surgeon recommend. I, personally, had a BMI of 44.  My surgeon, who I thought would approve me for RNY, and would if I wanted it, STRONGLY suggest Lap Band.  But that's for me.   So, I don't have much knowledge of the other surgeries.  But, if your surgeon does both, ask for advice.  And involve your PCP, too. Good luck!
