The Miracle of No weight Gain!

Hey Guys,

Just got back from three weeks in the states, where (in my family, anyway) eating and watching TV are hobbies.

Given, I had about 45 days straight without missing a workout. I take stretch bands and balance board with me wherever I go, but I still think it's a miracle that two years out, I can go off my diet, eating nuts and ice cream every day and not gain an ounce.

Lovin' this miracle!

Dave

Hey Dave, Glad you're back on board and back home safely. I agree that this thing is a miracle--I was gone almost 4 weeks visiting various family groups (without regular workouts) and managed to lose a couple of pounds. But then I'm still technically obese (by about 20 lbs)! But then there's obese and OBESE and being less "technically obese" after a long family visit is indeed a miracle after being Super Duper Mortally Obese for a few decades!

45 days straight of working your ass off has left you with a smokin' metabolism, I'd imagine. At this point you might have to mainline some Hershey's chocolate syrup in order to overwhelm that monster metabolism.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

H Nick, I'm going to be riding in the 4 day Moab Skinny Tire festival again this year. It was an amazing experience for me last year as Moab has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. It was cold as hell but supposedly last years temps were unusually cold (high was 23 during the 4 days and one day it only got up to 10) .  Are you still riding? I think you were going to ride the festival last year. Hope to see you there.  Boner

hey dave,

i agree with jfish, your metabolism. i know i can stuff my face and not gain weight unless i'm eating high calorie crap. it's true, we've been wired differently now plus all that muscle you have is burning calories in idle mode. this is an amazing surgery. all i know is between the lifting and running i'm able to maintain and not because of the workouts. it's because my resting metabolic rate is so high. i carry less fat than i ever have and it's a big help staying in range of my target weight. it's creeping back but i'm working on that. so keep up the good work......carbonblob

Hey Dave, I wish I had know you were in Virgina over the holidays, I would have tried to drive up and have lunch with you. Give me a head's up when your back this way again Dave and we'll get together. Hope you had a good visit with the family. I have pretty much stopped doing the gym workout these days and have been concentrating on hiking faster and longer for the past six months. I did 7.5 miles two weeks ago in 1hr 50mins and last weekend I hiked 17 miles with a 27 pound pack in about 4.5 hours on Moderate rated trails. I am working my endurance up so I can hike the 300 miles of the App. Trail for my 50th birthday next year. My weight bounces between 220-227lbs now days but I am able to mantain without a whole lot of trouble. Take Care, Tim

Hey Guys,

Great hearing from you all. Really pressed for time/ focus these days. It is weird how the weight has stabilized. Eat more stay the same weight. Eat less still stay the same weight.

My guesses:

Slow metabolism keeps weight from going down -AND-

Having half the intestinal pipe and intolerance for large concentrations of calories means food goes through unabsorbed.

In other words, large quantities of peanut butter fudge comes out as:

Large quantities of peanut butter fudge! (not as a dump, but the following day).
