I just bought some b complex, zinc and iron from GNC.  I am so sick ot my stomach and feel like I'm going to throw up and I'm all shakey.  Can vitamins do this to you?

Yes, Iron supplements are especially notorious for causing gastrointestinal upset.  It can  become quite severe in some patients.  My mother has an anemia, so we've had lots of experiences with iron supplements in my household.  Some are much easier on the stomach than others, but it seems to vary from person to person. I would definitely check with your doctor before taking them.  I'm not sure about b vitamins and zinc.

So what did you do?  Do you just have to suffer?  Or waste all kinds of money on trying different vitamins?  ggggrrrr I feel awful!

Iron is ruff on peoples stomach's preop..and post op ...it can be horrible (not to mention the constipation it can cause).  Try the gentle iron from Vitalady....i've heard people talk about it  a lot.  It's very gentle, and it dprety much disolves in your mouth(just make sure you take it wiht Vit. C...iron is absorbed better with C).   I take Repliva, it's a prescription Iron...it's pretty gentle, but now after 2 weeks it's starting to constipate me.  Forunately it's a 3 week on 1 week off type of suppliment, so I'm almost done with the first 3 weeks. I'm hoping my BMs return to normal after that..... B vitamins normally won't upset your stomach, but I have taken some muttis preop that were really harsh.  Play around with the suppliments.....GNC has a pretty good return policy on shakes, I'm not sure about their suppliments....but you can ask.   Scott PS are you taking a dry A and D?

Hey Dude... I just gave away a bottle b complex, I gave it my best shot....I went with the sublingual b12... Iron is really nasty for me, they will just have to give me an infusion, I ain;t gonna take it.... I know i'm a winp. but I still do the chewables with my coffee...Shush on the coffee....that is the only way they don;t burn a hole in me... man don;t we change from having a cast iron stomach...:) Russ

No pills ever bothered me before.  Hell nothing could hurt this cast iron contraption I used to call a stomach.  Now, I can barely take anything.

FYI,...kinda late but hope I can help; I get my iron with a orenatal multi-vitamin (Brandname: One Source; 28 mg per, 2 per dfosage in the mornings with my C, A, D, E B1, B12 and B-Complex).  I also take a syblingual B-12 under my tongue, then a squirt of liquid B-Complex. I get all my goodies from Walmart.  Cheap, effective, and never made me ill.  I let the B12 and B complex sit under my tonguw while I get all my other pills in hand then wash them all down at once.  In the begining, I had to split it up and take them in three different swallows. Good luck with that, your mileage may vary. May the FARTS be with you.

That happens to me if I try to take anything that is "high potentcy" so  have to use care when taking vitamins.  I'm now using Centrum chewable multi that goes down easy.

I nibble on a B Complex throughout the day.  Same with many of my vitamins.  Yeh, I know it's wierd.  I want to make sure whatever can and needs to get absorbed in the pouch will.  Then whatever needs to get absorbed in the GI tract will get absorbed there too.  I kept asking my surgeon (and OH boards) what gets absorbed where?  No one really could tell me.  I would love to get a Gastro Dr. at an OH regional meeting...Let them take on that question.  Brian
