Back In The Hospital Again

Well to celebrate my three months out of surgery and 105# weight loss I decided to get readmitted to the hospital to visit all of the fine folks that got me here. Well actually I have a stricture they dialated a month and half ago and perforated things. I spent some time in the hospital and they put in a feeding tube and said lets come back in 6 weeks. On Dec 6 they dialated again and took it from 5 mm to 6mm. All went well. And we scheduled another dialation for yesterday.  They took it to 7 mm because the met resistance when they tried to go to 8. In recovery the pain in the shoulders started. They did xrays and confirmed the leak. And so they admitted me. They just did an upper gi and it appears the leak is only air. The gastrography seemed to pass through the stricture and stay in the bowels.Which is good news. The possibility of a revision seems to be getting closer if things keep perforating during the dialations. That scares the hell out of me. After they decided to admit me we got a call that my mother in law passed away yesterday back in Baltimore. I feel very helpless. We were supposed to drive back satuday and visit. We could leave now if I were not in the hospital. Oh well... Just needed to vent a little. Thanks, Jon

Jon, Sorry to hear about your struggles.  It does seem sometimes in life that "when it rains it pours"  Just remember we are never given more than we can handle. Keep your head up high.  My thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through these tough times.

Hey Jon, Sorry to hear of your trials. I dealt with strictures myself and although its small comfort now, it will get better. Thoughts and prayers to you and your wife on the loss of her mother.  Doug

I guess the stricture part of things isnt so bad. The perforations during dialation are what worry me.

I know the stricture scene well having six dilations back in 2005. I currently have a feeding tube and it has been absolutely important as I've required it for nutrition during my cancer therapies.  Hang tough and mantain your spirit! This can really f __k with your mind. I also may require surgery as the chemo really enjoyed making a meal of my stoma! Still, I'm amazed at how my 57 year old body has stepped up and healed without the laying of hands (except for the 20 year old fox who gave me an enema!). Hopefully, your bod  will resolve this without the revision. We here for you! Dave
