How hard????

The actual surgery is a piece of cake, since you'll be knocked out completely. It's the kind of thing where you're laying on the operating table, and they give you the medication, and say "this might sting a little bit", then a few seconds later you're waking up in the recovery room, a little groggy. But the surgery is over at that point. It takes a couple of hours for your head to clear, then you go to your hospital room. After that, it's really up to how you tolerate pain. You'll get pain meds as needed. You'll be a little sore, but it should be manageable. Getting up to go pee is painful because your abs are so sore, but it's doable. And you'll be encouraged to walk around in the hallways even if it's just for a few minutes.

I think everyone is different. For me my first two months were a living HELL.  But after that period things got a lot better.  I guess I wasn't one of the lucky ones where it was a cake walk.

Now... we are all different... and all our Dr's give us different advice... so PLEASE listen to yours... BUT... Let me give you my situation. I was up walking around 6 hours after my surgery when the nurses weren't looking. By day 2 I was walking every 2 hours. Yes, I was using the pump... But.. to be honest, I could have driven home. 24 hours after I was relased I was driving myself to Wal-Mart.. 7 days after surgery, 1 day after my drains were pulled I mowed my lawn... took 55 minutes, normally takes 35. I had Sushi on day 10, my Dr had us go right on to soft foods. (puree them as you chew). I only missed 5 days of work. My surgery was 8/30/07 and I am now down 102 pounds. BUT, and I say BUT the hardest part of this journey is life afterwards. Learning to CHEW CHEW CHEW and eat SLOW SLOW SLOW. The tool works, trust me... I froth often, why??? Cause I am still learning how to eat slowly. I have only dumped once, and I will hope that I never have to go through that horror again. Learning to eat for protein, learning to eat to live not enjoy is the hard part. SLOWLY eating is a ***** at first... BUT... my only regret is not doing this sooner. Check out my before's and I wouldn't say after's but the most recent pic is of me down about 88 pounds.

Mine was very easy. Walked within 1 hr. after going to my room.I had no appitite for a couple of months. I had a problem with strictures and had to be dialated once. Yesterday was the first I've had an upste stomach in nearly four months; totally my fault. I ate to fast and to much. In Texas you no where the DPS officers patrol and you'd better be careful, with your Pouch it's the same !

Mine was easy as well very little pain at all. The itching from the morphine was worse than the pain from the surgery.  You will get some tearing pains 2-3 weeks afterwards but no big whoop.  I was back at work in a week. Believe me it is better to be at work than at home watching burger king comercials.  Just take it easy. This biggest part is just learning to change your eating habits and dealing with thirst . Especially speed of eating. Dumping syndrome is no fun at all. Just remember if you feel a lump in your throat it's too late, go on ahead and go to the bathroom and vomit. I just made 4 months post op and have lost 91 pouns. 15 more pounds to my goal weight which I should reach by the end of January at this rate. I believe WLS is like anything else you will get as much out of it as you  put into it.  Good luck.
