What does your nutritionist suggest?
I heard that soy can increase estrogen levels which can in turn increase chances of gynecomastia (man boobs) .
1. Both are better than nothing. I wouldn't worry to much about the gynecomastia, that's a pretty rare effect unless you already have high estrogen levels. You may have floppy boobs due to the weight loss, but that's not the same thing.
2. If you can tolerate whey fine, it's unequivocally better. Higher bioavailability, better amino acid profile, better price per g of protein.

Thanks for the info. It sounds that whey is the whey(OMG I'm on a roll) to go.

Following my first RNY, I couldn't tolerate Whey. I had to get Soy and it was gritty but better than nothing. About 9 mos later I became able to have the whey. It tasted much better. I used HDT 5+1 because it was cheap. I'm now using Matrix Simply Vanilla which tastes fine and mixes with a spoon. However, I've found over the years (I've been a member since July,2000) that taste preference vary greatly. See if you can get samples someplace before buying a 5 lb tub or resealable bag. Many of the companies that advertise on ObesityHelp.com do offer samples for a nominal fee.

bob, Great info on the samples. I will have to look into them. I hear that tastes can change after WLS so should I wait until after my surgery to start trying them?
You can order the samples now so that you will have them when you are post-op. Tastes do change, so you may want to wait until that time to try them. Also, you won't know if you can tolerate the whey until post surgery. I had a lactose intolerance to the whey post op but I had never had that problem pre-op.

Interesting. I hope that doesn't happen to me.
Thanks for the help.
