I no what you feel because if I had an addiction it was ICE CREAM. I have a pint in freezer and eat a spoonful maby once or twice a month. It still tastes great, but I no now I don't need it or COKES any longer. I'm about 7 1/2 months out. Give yourself a chance for the first six months to let your body race as fast as it can. My weight loss is still steady but has slowed dramaticly over the last 6 weeks. Good Luck

Well I'm never an advocate of totally banning any group of foods from my diet for the rest of my life.     I didn't touch ice cream or any other sugary-ish foods for at least 9 months post-op.   I've slowly added some of the foods that I enjoyed before surgery back into my diet.   It's all about MODERATION now for me.  I know what makes me sick, I know how much I can eat and I know that I have made a commitment to myself to exercise on a daily basis for the rest of my life.   With that said, I'm not going to deny myself anything but rather eat said food in MODERATION.   I hate to beat the dead horse but the surgery is the TOOL that keeps the MODERATION in check.  The exercise and moving around more part is up to the individual.

As far as sugar free ice creams go there are a variety of choices to choose from bu****ch the sugar alcohols.   I dump on sugar alcohols but not from sugar.  Go figure! :)

You're still in your honeymoon period though man.   Stick to the diet as closely as you can right now so you can get the maximum weight loss during the first 6 months.

I've become addicted to the Life Savers sugar free popsicles - I've only seen them at Safeway but they are great and they satisfy my cravings for sweet/cold things like ice cream.

DON'T DO IT!!!!! Take it from me.  I am two years out and have struggled with this whole thing from the beginning.  I didn't make good choices and ice cream was one of them.  It has been a downward spiral since.  I have lost weight but it's starting to creep up again and if I weren't running 25 miles a week, it would be out of control.  Ice cream is one of the biggest factors.  Don't ever take a bite if ice cream again.  Please.

What Scott said,  and Dx, and ........most everyone...... ice cream,....bad mojo.  Back away from the freezer, walk over to the blender.  Fruit, a little skim milk or OJ, ice, protein powder = smoothie,....yum! Smoothie,....good mojo.

I really appreciate the various comments received. I agree with the majority of you guys. I really do need to focus on whats important, weight loss and to stay away from the things that brought me into this situation. I fimly agree with the philosophy of if something isn't broken then don't attempt to fix it. Happy Holidays to you guys and your families!!!!! Image Preview

yeah troy a lot of good advice here. you might want to steer clear. what they didn't say was scott ended up ******g in his container of ice cream! that was the only way to keep it out of his mouth! hey, whatever works you know?

now the truth. for me s/f ice cream didn't work. it also didn't seem like a path down the dark side as i wasn't into ice cream anyway. but if it's an addiction then don't go there. so i got tired of the s/f pops and they didn't satisfy. so i get these low cal root beer floats. they are 50 calories. well, that's not so low cal but i don't eat the whole box. just a couple and they hit that sugar spot for me. i can eat them or leave them alone. however, i don't keep any chips in the house. that's my weakness. so if you are craving stuff that got you in trouble, follow the advice given thus far. go the other way and just learn to live without it or at the very least in moderation. i can do that with the pops but not other stuff. we all have our weakness and demons so i'm sure you know, beware! good luck.....carbonblob
