My experience: I developed a lactose intolerance after my surgery, and started using soy protein powder from GNC.  It tasted like chit,   but you do what you gotta do.  Fortunately, the intolerance proved to be temporary, and I can tolerate whey-based stuff, now. What I'm using now is Body Fortress Chocolate Whey powder from Wal-Mart.  It's cheap - about $12 for (30) scoops at 23 grams protein per scoop.  On the package they make a big deal about it being 46 grams per serving, but when you look closer, they say that's for 2 scoops.  Well, DUH!   Also, I've found a very easy way to get those nasty powder blobs broken up and dissolved completely, without an electric mixer.  GNC has a plastic mixer cup for about $5.  It holds 24 oz, and has a grate-like insert that fits into the top. I just put about 10 oz. of hot tap water into the cup, put in 2 scoops of powder, drop in the grate insert, screw on the cap, and shake about 10 times.  Viola!    It tastes like 'thin' hot chocolate, with NO powder globs.  Afterward, just rinse the cup pieces and set out to dry. 10 oz. liquid, 46 gm protein.  About $0.80.

Box... I do the same when I need a new taste (I use the Protein slams 27g/2oz). But I only use 1.5 scoops... Last you longer and you can only digest a max of 33 grams of protein at a time. (I assume you are finnishing the entire 10 oz. Now your cost is only $0.60.

I use the Isopure as well. I have found it on ebay a lot cheaper. What I like about it is the vitamins and minerals that it has. I have tried others and some I have liked and others I have not, but usually they don't have all the vitamins that Isopure have.  I don't use a much water as they say to use, I like it with water better than milk, I stir for a couple of minutes and then let it set for a few more and then come back and give another stir and drink it. Letting it sit a few minutes gives it a chance to dissolve,  that or a tuperware plastic cup with a lid, dump it all in and shake for 2 or 3 minutes and it is ready to go. pan head

I have read this three different places, I will search for the writtings when I get back into town. Also, my surgeon gave me the run down on it, as well as 2 other surgeons who attended group meetings I attended over the summer prior to getting my surgery. Once I heard it from a third surgeon, I guessed I would beleive them. I have talked to others whose surgeons told them the same thing. Check with yours at your next check up, see what he says. Don't forget everyone's doctors have different plans for them, so maybe I shouldn't preach that fact... Maybe it isn't accepted yet or something... But, I am a cheap SOB and if I can save a nickle by spreading my protein out through out the day, I will!! lol

OK.  I didn't mean I didn't believe it.  I just meant I couldn't recall ever hearing about a 33-gram limit before, and was curious where the info. came from. I WILL ask my surgeon and nut. about it.  And you're right - if it's true, there's no sense taking in more protein than my body can handle at once.

I found new protein drinks froma  company called true protein.  I work with a powerlifter, and he swears by these.  They come in plastic bottles, with a homemade label, kinda ghetto, but they are excellent.  50 grams of protein and 200 calories and NOTHING ELSE. (and from what I can see they are good proteins as well)  On the right side of the menu are the ready to drink ones.  Just add water and shake.  I think 2 dozen bottles were around 40 or so total with shipping.  Plus they can actually make you custom drinks with the levels of proteins you want, so that you can completely customize what you get.

I found by far the easiest way to suppliment protein for me was the New Whey liquid supplements.  They come in a 42 gram serving - pre-measured and in an easy to carry plastic "bullet" and they taste Ok too.  Give it a try. JP
