Hello all Question... I am 3 week out from my surgery and after talking to my dietian I found That I have to maintain 94  protien a day... I found that Isopure (http://www.gnc.com/sm-natures-best-perfect-zero-carb-isopure -strawberries-and-cream--pi-2134406.html)  contains 40 % in the bottle form and 50 % in powder form (both are meal replacements)...  I did tried the drink and it was not bad...    so my question is "Is this a best way to assist me to get 94 grams of protein or is there other way?"

You could try the Nature's Best Berry Powder protein.  It's a lot cheaper (32.9/3 lbs) and you can add much less water to the mix for easier doses. I still drink the isopure once in awhile but it gets expensive.  And I won't have my surgery until Feb 08, but wanted to get used to getting the protein in. BTW, try www.dpsnutrition.com for prices.  They're less expensive even with shipping. Good luck

Bruthaland -

I can tell you it took me 4-5 try's to get one I like. The one I found to be the best is Syntha 6. It's avail at Smoothie King, Smoothie Factory and also on line. It mixes the best and doesnt taste chalky.

Look it up on line, many flavors available.

Isopure is the only one I have tried so far. I don't mind it at all. GNC has it on sale all this month I think. I paid about $37 for the 3lb at a GNC store. I am not that picky and don't mind the taste of things like this though. I can tell you, if you don't have one, go get a Magic Bullet blender. The ones from the infomercial, and you can get them in stores now. They work REALLY good and brea**** up like a slushy. I use a cup of light soy milk, some ice and the Isopure for a strawberry shake. I use the soy milk just because it is a little lower in fat, carbs and sugar than even skim milk. I don't seem to have any lactose issues after surgery. Don't know if this helps answer your question, but I would say if you can afford it and don't mind the taste, Isopure is probably a good choice. I have been happy with it so far.

A few points: 1. Almost all whey protein powders are about equal in terms of getting your protein in.  Some have a couple grams of fat and/or carbs more than the others, but this is minor in the grand scheme of things.  Some have more whey isolate than concentrate or other peptides, but all forms of whey are such good sources of protein compared to most food sources (chicken, beef, beans, etc.) that it's not worth worrying about.  What you are really looking at is price, texture, and taste. 2. Isopure has 50 g per serving compared to 20g or 25 g for other powders.  This is mostly a trick.  Basically, Isopure just calls their "serving" roughly two ounces instead of roughly one ounce.  You could get the same effect with Optimum nutrition by using two scoops.  The best way to compare prices for powders is to figure out how much you are paying per 100 g of protein.  As for the serving size you actually use per sitting, that's up to you. 3. Isopure tastes OK, but I personally find the texture gritty/chalky.  There are better flavors out there (IMO) that cost less per g of protein and are roughly equal nutritionally.  I tried over 70 protein powders and posted the results at this link (with further links to detailed ratings).

I think this one tastes fine and it's cheap. Got to buy on line for the best deal:

Check out any of the products made by Syntrax.  I'm currently using the Matrix Vanilla (Matrix is a subdivision).  I usually order from www.netrition.com but most other online nutritional stores carry it.  Just look up Syntrax as the manufacturer.  They make many fruity flavors also such as Roadside Lemonade that the women seem to like.  They taste good and can be mixed with a spoon (no blender needed);  that comes in handy if you want to have a shake while you're at work-- just bring the powder and mix it with water ( and flavoring if you want).  Whew, I should be shot for writing such a convoluted sentence.

I use to do the Isopure, until the taste got to me... this was as I was halfway through my 2nd  bottle! lol I now depend on "Detour lower sugar" protein bars, as they have 15 grams of protein per bar. And I do 2 protein slams a day (27 grams of protein, in 2 onces... but sweet... so if you can't tolerate sweet it might not be for you, it is also a little think, I pour them over ice and let the melt a little)... But, don't forget, your body cant absorb more than 31-33 grams of protein at a time. So don't waste it... wait a couple hours and drink the rest. Chris

The two protein supplements I use the most are IDS New-Whey liquid protein shots, they come in 42 and 25 gram shots. There is only 3oz in a shot so you don’t have a lot of fluid to drink, and I think they taste good, also they are low in calories with 0 fat and 0 sugar. www.newwhey.com . The other is lean body by Labrada nutrition, they have premixed and powdered proteins. I use the premixed drinks with 40 grams of protein, the chocolate ones tastes like a milkshake. They are a bit higher in calories, fat, and sugar tho. www.labrada.com

I personally do not care for Isopure .. something about that weird aftertaste .  like shaving lotion or embalming fluid or something ..  lol      The big hot thing right now re:  protein seems to be Proteinex ..  It's a tasteless powder that can be added to anything, and gives a LARGE amount of protein (can't remember how many grams, right now)  ..  You can get it online, at Walmart, Target, etc.  but you may need to ask for it b/c it is sometimes kept behind the pharmacy counter (no idea why) ...     OH recenlty had them as a sponspor with a link on here somewhere ..
