I know most of the larger sport stores here have their models set up ...so you can actually go there and try them out.  It might be worth going on a day you didn't work out and have some time, and try each machine for 5 minutes......I'd say after 5 minutes you should have a pretty good idea if it's right for you or not.

I have the Schwinn and it has performed well for over a year.  I spent 1100 on it when they were first rated high and it appears as if the price has dropped.  It does have a 350 pound weight limit (which was close for me). I thought about  buying one in the 2K range, but after spending that on a Vision treadmill, I realized that the Vision was overkill and I might as well save the money. good luck. Guy

Paul, If you have the patience and the time and are not hung up on having a brand new piece of equipment, then you never.................never.................have to pay 'brand-new'-retail prices.  Exercise equipment is for sale on craigslist and always being donated to your local Goodwill, Salvation Army, and second hand stores.  In my garage, I have a universal weight system, stationary 10 speed, Nordictrac, an eliptical, and a total-gym.  I could never afford to have all this stuff new.  It all came via private party and second hand stores.  The most I paid for one thing is $100 for the TotalGym.    People are always getting rid of exercise equipment they don't use.  Sometimes it's old, sometimes it's junk, but you'd be surprised how often people are simply trying to get rid of hardly-used, good quality equipment! Good Luck, Dennis

Paul, at work I put in at least 30 minutes each day I work on a Precor EFX 546. It has a very smooth operation to it, does not have the moving handles. It does have the changable incline and resistence. http://www.precor.com/comm/efx/546i/ Of course in going to find that link I find out how pricey it is $$$$$$ It is around $3000. I was at Sears and they had a Nordic Track for around $1500 that seemed to flow pretty well. Maybe I better go back over there and take another look...

Paul, Have you spent much time on one? I tried to switch from my treadmill to an elliptical and it was torturous on my left knee. It seems counterintuitive, I know, but I went back to the treadmill. My PT says it has to do with my knee cap being off center, which I am working on with exercise. Good luck with it! JP
