All right, from the kitchen of BobM.  Enjoy. TURKEY BURGERS 3 pounds fresh ground white turkey meat (lean and w/o skin) 3/4 cup peeled, grated zucchini squash 2 - 8 oz cans sliced mushrooms (chopped finely) 1 envelope dried onion soup mix 1/2 cup or less of barbecue sauce 8 slices of no fat cheese (if you like cheese burgers) fat free buns Combine the first four ingredients together in a bowl and form into meat patties.  Place patties in the frig for 30 minutes to firm them up.  Grill in or outside and baste with barbecue sauce while cooking.  Cook about 5-7 minutes per side.  At the last minute of cooking time put slice of cheese on burger.  Serve using any garnish, make sure your sauces are on the lite side! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I Love Fried Chicken: 6 chicken breasts, halved 4 oz a piece, skinless and boneless. 14 or so fat free wheat crackers 6 slices of melba toast 1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup of egg beaters 1/2 cup liquid butter buds or fat free chicken broth salt and pepper to taste (I normally add a little garlic powder or salt too) Crush crackers and melba toast.  Place flour on small plate, pour egg beaters on another small plate.  Pour the butter buds or chicken broth into a large non stick frying pan.  Turn stove to medium.  Coat the chicken with flour then dip them into the egg stuff and then roll them with the cracker concotion (coat well). Place them in the frying pan and coo****il golden.  cook on both sides.  Next, remove from frying pan and place on a cooking sheet that has been sprayed with a non fat cooking spray.  Turn oven to 350 degrees and bake about 15 or 20 minutes or until crisp.  (I normally add parmesan cheese to the cracker mix)  31 grams of protein per 4 oz piece.  Yum Yum. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alrighty, last but definitely not the least.  My family likes chip and dip.  Normally we would buy the layered Mexican dip from Walmart that contains lots and lots of hidden fat, but not anymore nor do we have to sacrifice our love for dip and chips! LAYERED MEXICAN DIP 2 lbs fat free refried beans 1/2 lb. ground lean turkey, cooked and drained (the non lean can have as much as 46 grams of hidden fat) 3 cups of non fat mozzarella cheese 1 cup grated non fat cheddar cheese 16 oz. jar taco sauce 4 oz can of green chilies 1 cup FF sour cream 3 Tbs. FF chicken broth 1 large onion - diced. Brown onion in chicken broth.  Add cooked ground turkey.  Stir refried beans into turkey mixture.  Spread into a 9 x 13 inch casserole dish that has been sprayed with a non fat cooking spray.  Sprinkle green chilies over top of turkey mixture.  Spread half of the cheese over this.  pour taco sauce over cheese, sprinkle remaining cheese on top and bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes.  Cool slightly and spoon sour cream to make a cross on top of casserole.  18 grams of protein per 1/4 cup serving and only 2% calories from FAT!  Serve with low fat corn chips, I normally buy the corn tortillas and bust them up into quarters.  Enjoy.   For an added zip you can add diced jalopenos. p.s.  I'm doing as well as I can expect.  Home health nurses come by a couple of times a week.  I went to church last Sunday (first time in 4 mos) it was like going home.  In the middle of the service, when we stepped in, the service stopped and they gave me a standing ovation, can you believe that!   Tomorrow, Lori and I travel to Springfield (60 miles away) to establish a relationship with a local hospital on my case.  Much much closer than the 300 mile trip to Columbia, Missouri.  While the bariatric people still check up on me, the wound care people are the go to people in fixing my fissular on a future date.  My columbia doctors are Ramshaw and Kratz, rumored to be the best in their field but who knows!? It is nice to be home and recuperating slowly, I have many many wonderful friends and am only half way through the many cards, emails, prayer support and encouragement I am receiving.  God is good!  I miss preaching and ministering terribly but don't have the energy to make a comeback.  I'm currently on a feeding tube of Boost with extra protein (don't get hungry).  I also drink water and take my pills by mouth, only once did one pop out of my stomach and it was 3/4 dissolved. Now my good friends and prayer warriors, may God richly bless you and keep you, give you success in your endeavors and may his peace be yours.  BobM.

Bob, it is great to hear that you've turned the corner and am getting better.  I've been following your story and realize that your overall recovery is far more important than merely losing a few pounds.....however, although you've been through quite alot, I am more than a bit curious as to how much weight you've lost during your ordeal.  Best of luck and keep on getting healthy. Sonny

You will be assimilated, resistance is futile.

good to hear you're doing reasonably better bob.

of all the small percentages it just had to happen to you huh? hopefully over time you'll be able to get back to preachin' again. in the meantime i'll keep these recipies on file. i'm having trouble eating too and the protien shakes don't work for me anymore. they upset my gut too much. so always on the lookout for a way to get more protien in my system without ruining it.

i hope all your specialist find a way to get you back together soon. btw, how much weight have you lost now? i'm not going to turn this post into a story about me but i do relate to you in a small way. just as i started losing the weight i had the back problems and pain you know all to well about. as the pain progressed i kept losing more and more weight. i couldn't eat either. so i lost all my weight by 7 months! so like you, i never got to enjoy the fun of losing weight and feeling good about it. i was so focused on my back and pain that it ruined my journey and any feelings about it. well, i did enjoy some of it but i guess i'm trying to say this....at some point it will come together for you and you'll be glad you don't have to deal with being overweight anymore. i look back more in reflection as to my journey. most get to have fun on the way down but some of us had a hard time. so just hang in there. maybe not now but certainly later you'll be so grateful you did this no matter what the cost.

in the few posts i've read from you i know you put a positive spin on this ordeal and are thankful you had the surgery. it will pay off and i hope like me, you come to enjoy the benefits down the road. now i can't even begin to compare my pain with yours or Dx's or some others but i did have hard time as you know. so from someone who had issues i just want to say hang in there. you'll be another Dx and an insperation to us all (if not already)l.......lol. take care...carbonblob

Bob, That reaction at the church is priceless! You must be living proof of answered prayer for many of them. Sounds like you are on your way (slow as it is) back to health! Congratulations! Have a safe trip tomorrow and I hope You "Click" with these docs. A year from now you and Lori will be younger than you can imagine. The sea never seems as beautiful as it does after you’ve come through a storm. Here’s to Smooth Sailing from here on out! Continued Prayer & Best Wishes- Dx

Glad to hear you're at least back at church. You'll get your strength back as soon as your body adapts.

Good recipes. I like ground meat and poultry stuff.

Dave
