NSV of the feet
(cross posted to the lap-band forum)
I finally got around to posting this.
For the last few years I have had severe foot pain when walking more than a couple of blocks, so I avoided walking as much as possible. I live 3 blocks from work, but I couldn't even walk that far without pain so I drove my car. (A very Californian thing to be sure). I had been to the podiatrist many times and was fitted with several orthotics but could never alleviate the pain.
When I got WLS, I knew I had to start exercising, but since I couldn't walk much, I thought I would end up on a stationary bike as my exercise. But after I got home from the hospital, I did a little walking ( not more than a few minutes out in front of my street.). Each day I was able to walk a little farther. Then one day, not very long after surgery, I realized I was walking around my entire block, with no foot pain. Then I made it to 2 miles. Now I am walking 3 miles 4-5 times per week. This was after losing just 30 pounds.
It's amazing that those 30 pounds were the cause of so much pain these last few years. But now that they're gone, and then some, my feet are a lot happier.
I just wanted to share that!
Have a great day.

Oh .. something we like to do a lot on here! lol
btw - speaking of foot pain .. anyone of us that is or was very heavy should get checked out by a podiatrist for something called "Charcot's Foot" at some time . They can diagnose it with x-rays .. Basically our very heavy weight can cause bones to break inside the foot and never heal up (b/c of the constant placing of heavy weight on and off it) .. The condition is worse in diabetics b/c we don't feel the pain sometimes due to foot numbness ... It can get so bad and chronic to even require amputation .. it's a scary thing - but very treatable if caught early .. !
