Long term studies...
Someone in here must know if there have been any long term studies done for WLS. My understanding is that some form of WLS has been around for over 20 years. Is there anyone here that had it done back then or knows anyone that did? I think that the tendency for younger people to have the surgery has increased lately, I don't think there was as big an issue with obesity in those in their 20's and 30's like now ( I could be wrong), so that might make long term studies difficult. I feel like I am rambling a bit but I think you know what I mean. If anyone has info, please pass it along.
Gracias
Paul
I found this:
http://www.annals.org/cgi/content/full/142/7/547
It's a meta study of all studies done so far on bariatric surgery. There's a lot of information here.
There is a woman in my support group who is 23 years post-op. Obviously, she didn't have any procedure that we are farmiliar with. She is doing very well and back then there was no post-op care. They basically kicked her out and said, "good luck". I figure that with the care in the 80's not being what it is today we should be fine..
