What was your last meal?

Hey guys, Just thought I'd ask a funny question.. that might say a lot about us... What was your 'last meal' before the liquid diet, before surgery, etc. Tonight was my last meal, and it's weird, I'd been thinking about it.. I read on the main board how some people 'pig out' on everything the night before.  I thought I might... but I didn't. Instead, this last week, leading up to this, I just stopped at my favorite places, and had a bit of everything I liked... some fried fish, chicken, pizza, nice steak, etc... one day a nice sausage, eggs and biscuits breakfast, etc... .never really 'pigged out' any day...  Tonight, when it came down to it... I found I had a very simple desire.. I went to McDonalds, got one cheeseburger, and one small fry.. and simply savored each bite.  I think I enjoyed this much more than I would have 'pigging out' and feeling all bloated and sick. Now, I think I got it out of my system, and least for a while.. weird.. I expected I'd be emotional, like saying goodbye to 'an old friend', ya know? But instead, it was more like quiet resolve.. 'this is it... so enjoy'. Dale

I had WLS at 260 lbs.... a relative lightweight, but the Doc said he saw symptoms in me that usually appeared in folks 100 lbs. or more my senior.  Sleep apnea, very high BP, high chloresteral, diabetes looming on the horizon.  I read the writing on the wall, and took the plunge. Point is, I didn't have to lose any weight as a prerequisite to surgery.   So my goal, the week prior to my surgery, was to eat "one of everything" Self-defeating, I know.... then again, no one's ever accused me of being smart.

Dale, I had a nice Rare Steak and tamales the day before my “Pre-op regimen began. Oddly enough, I had the exact same meal 2 years later on the two year anniversary of my surgery. This is It? No way... Don’t buy into the myth that “You’ll Never Have ______Again!” Out in the Future? You know that Weigh****chers saying?--- “Nothing Tastes as Good as Thin Feels.” It’s a load of Crap. Those Weigh****chers Folks have never tasted my Chili or Spaghetti Sauce! But, one thing I have found to be true? Everything tastes better from the narrow side of the booth… Particularly while comfortably wearing a Size Medium Shirt! Hang in there, You’re headed into the roughest part. Have a Great One! Best Wishes- Dx

I thought long and hard about what my last meal might be. Then a friend asked me: "Should an alcoholic get drunk the night before rehab?" Point was taken.

DX is right on the money too. I'm nearly a year out and I've "tasted" many of the old joys. But that's just it. I take a small taste and I'm done. No more hiding behind the refrigerator door eating cheesecake from the cake stand anymore.

For Thanksgiving I ate a small forkful of pumpkin pie. It was delicious. I found that I didn't even want a second. Now,that being said, the vat of miniature York peppermint patties beckons me every time I pass the tv stand. I tried one a few days ago and it was really good. I got a headache from it but I still found myself wanting more. Funny how some things trigger desire and others don't.

I didn't have to do a liquid diet but did have to go low fat for a week before.  I did stop at several of our normal dining out places before that (always having the "big beers).  On the last day before I was told to eat fairly light until "the cleansing" Sunday afternoon.  I had a tuna sandwich with a Coors light. Last night I had my first beer since surgery (i've had a little wine and some rum drinks) and while I enjoyed the taste I wasn't crazy about the carbonation.  (I guess no more big beers for me - not necessarily a bad thing). Prayers and best wishes go out to you for a great successful surgery and recovery, Brian

Heh.  I had around 3 or 4 last meals.    Donuts, mom's spaghetti, mexican food, donuts, boudin, donuts.  Heh.   It's funny though I did the same thing as you.  My last, last meal was actually a MickyDs cheeseburger too.   I had one the day before surgery.

Don't look at the foods as your last meals though.   You WILL be able to eat the foods you love again many, many months in the future after your body adapts to your new digestive system.  You'll be able to eat a SLICE of pizza or a PIECE of catfish and it will satisfy you.   (Now don't go try to eat some fried fish a couple weeks outta surgery.   You'll pay for that.)  You just won't be able to eat those foods in the same quantites as you did before.

That's what I call 'The Grande Tour', which is what I did. I also did my best to try to eat smaller portions, because I wanted to lose about 10 lbs pre-op; I managed 5. In the month I did this, I hit all of my favorite cuisines except Italian. My physical last meal was SF Raspberry Jello. Ruined me for life. Blech. Honestly, I don't remember what I had the day before Jello. What was really funny was that in the post-op liquid diet stage, I had  unnatural cravings for white bread-bologna-Miracle Whip sandwiches, or tuna sald. I expected cravings for something I really like, such as a medium rare burger off the grill, but those two are in the mid 1500s on the list of my favorite things in order of declining preference. For reference, the 'I hate' section starts at roughly 10k.

I was thinking the same thing.  What to have, what do I want.  I know it's not my "last meal" but I would like to have something special.  Sometimes the joy of a burger is better than a full on 57 course meal Trip to the chineese buffet, steak dinner, greasy old tacos, who know, I can't decide. I think I am leaning towards a healthy meal high in quality.  I'm not going to gorge or engage in the type of behavior that got me to the point I am now. Hmm typing this out has been good.  I have decided I will be having grilled vegetables, with a lobster tail and a small piece of steak(greatly removed from the side of beef I used to eat).

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

Honestly, I don't remember. I never looked at it like a "last meal" so I did nothing special. I am just over a year out and am past my first two goals and am looking to get to "normal" weight as my last goal. I am one of the "lucky" ones in that I can eat most things in moderation without a problem. I guess that is the key, moderation. For Thanksgiving I baked an apple pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, pumpkin cake and a lemon filled white cake. I have had a little of each since then and no problems. There have been lots of cakes in the house over the last month as I am taking cake decorating classes and I need to make a new cake every week. Too much straight sugar will positively make me ill so I just avoid it. Mc D hamburger, what a waste! Why eat cardboard for a last meal when you could have had real food!
Get it hot, hit it HARD,
