Quick Protien Question

Ok, so I am looking for a really great unflavored protien powder. I have one currently called Any Whey but it takes a giant scoop and is only 17 grams. I am looking for something with less volume that I could add to small glass of juice or a smoothy type beverage without altering it with all that powder. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. I dont' know ....I didn't think any whey was good...it actually had a nasty rotten egg taste to it (in my opinion).  I am intolerant of whey so I haven't tried many whey products....but I have heard great things about unjury's flavorless whey protein.   If you are looking for something with less volume...you could do the protein shooters (i.e. profect or the IDS whey vials)...some of them have 42 grams of protein in 3 oz.  The only thing is that these can't be your only source of protein, because they are not complete proteins.  There amino acid profile is very unbalanced...which means it would leave you protein deficient if this was your only protein source.  Scott

On the main forum page, there was an ad for a new product called Proteinex (sp. ?) that is being sold at Wal-Marts, Target, GNC, etc. (somebody said it is sold behind the counter though, so you have to ask the pharmacist for it)  ..  The ad is down now, but it is apparently the hottest thing going right now for protein supps.   I think it was unflavored, but can't remember ..  the protein content was HIGH though ..   One of our newbies at our recent local WLS support group was given a brochure on it by her nurse or nutritionist upon discharge ..    I'd check it out ..  There should be info. about it online ...

I swear by the unflavored Unjury. www.unjury.com It's whey protein isolate and really doesn't have much of a flavor at all. I use the auto-ship feature from their website and save some cash. BTW, the strawberry is good too. I mix it with crystal light Lemonade ( or the knock-off from wally world).

I use GNC brand banana cream and Optimum Nutrition banana flavored.  Funny thing is I really don't like bananas unless they are dehydrated but I absolutely abhor any and all other protein brands I've tried.    Those are the only brands and flavors that I can choke down without gagging.   Each scoop (for both brands) contains 25g of protein.  I mix one or two in 4oz of water, blend it in my magic bullet blender and then shoot it like a shot.    Unline some brands it blends really well and I rarely have the snotty protein globules floating around in the liquid.

Question about how you make the "shots".  Doesn't the blender give you a frothy mix - that is, full of air bubbles?  If so, seems to me like you wouldn't want to "shoot down" a bunch of air. I just mix with a spoon, and put up with the powder globs, but I'd do it with a blender if I didn't have to wait a long time for the bubbles to settle out. Speaking of protein globs, Unjury powder seems to mix much better in that regard than the stuff I usually get from Wally-World.

Nah it does a great job mixing it.   It's kinda frothy but I can chug it down with no issues and no after effects.

I tried Unjury and like 99% of all the other brands the taste made me gag.

Have you considered using liquid proteins?  Most are flavored but could be added to juices or smoothy beverages. GNC has a fruit punch liquid and New Whey have liquid proteins that can go in drinks really well. JP
