Good morning to everyone. My fear is that I will put the weight back on! Although while I was off from work due to the kidney surgery and was not going to the gym (I started back this morning and it sure felt GREAT) I still lost weight though at a very slow rate. The graph has nearly flattened out and I am loosing, on average over the last 3 weeks about 1/2 lb a week though over the last 3 months recovering from the kidney surgery I have lost 20pounds. I am hovering at around 191# it goes up or down by about a pound daily and I realize this is due to water etc. I also realize that I am fairly close to a "normal weight" which is for my height, 175# and that I have extra weight that is not counted in the charts for the bone mass that I built up due to the extra weight and for the extra skin/fat is leftover after deflating the balloon. Every other time in my life, when I have lost the weight, it came back and then some. I am enjoying looking for work clothes (you know, the clothes that you don't mind getting greasy or torn, or burnt up) at the Salvation Army store and not being able to find many because they are ALL TOO BIG!!! I am enjoying being smaller than most of my co-workers who when they found out that I was down to 190 from 368.5, they sucked in THEIR stomachs! I enjoy this new life of fitting into cars, airplanes, booths at eating establishments and everywhere else that NORMAL size people fit. Part of the problem is I guess, that people at work praise me for the work I have done and then proceed to tell me about the people that they know that had the surgery and failed at it and are now nearly as large as they used to be. I do see the people at my support group who are making it but those doubt seeds are firmly planted and they are in good soil. The question I have is a little personal but here goes. For the last several weeks, I have been waking up in the morning with about a 3/4 woodie even though I distinctly remember that I was not having a sexual dream, in fact it has nothing to do with the content of the dream but there it is every morning, but it goes away as I get up for the day. Has anyone else had this "problem"? I know my system is still adjusting to the weight as if I stand quickly, the room will start spinning and sometimes get a little dim. My BP is now averaging 95/65 down from 148/85, I just don't know what to make of the "new situation"

Let me get this straight. Your're complaining because you have morning wood? It's "hard" for a guy who has had prostrate sugery to feel sorry for you and your problem! Some problems are just better than others I guess.

I think we all have that fear in the back of our heads, I do any way. I have changed my eating life style and this is the new me. I don't intend to go back to eating the unhealthy things that I use to.  As far as your other problem, you are not by your self. I feel like a tent builder every morning. The way I understand it testosterone is stored in fat and with rapid weight loss our testosterone levels go up along with some thing else. My wife is a morning person and she seems to be enjoying it almost as much as I am. I don't know if it is quite like being twenty again but it's pretty close. Plus with all the extra energy I have anyway, It's like I am at least twenty years younger. I haven't felt this good in I don't know how long.

I know a guy that had a by-pass and has gained a lot of his weight back. He told me that a lot of people was telling him that he looked bad so he started going back to his old habits because he wanted to regain a little weight and now it is out of hand. That is why I say I intend to keep eating the way I am. For example I haven't had a soda for over a year and a half. Why would I want to start back? Same thing with simple carbs. I think as long as we keep doing what we learned to get to this point we will be successful at keeping it off.  pan head

I'm still a newbie as far as the surgery goes (have completed all my preop studies, just waiting on a date now), but I think the normal male has several erections during the course of a night.  Also, have you discussed your blood pressure with your doctor?  I had a coworker who suffered from low blood pressure and was very prone to easily passing out, especially standing from a sitting position.

Hey Cal! The nagging fear of re-gain? Very Common. Actually regaining significant amount of lost weight? Very Rare. Many have a 5 to 10lb bounce-back after hitting thier lowest weight, But more than that is UNCOMMON. Yes, it can happen, It's just not what happens to the vast majority of Post-ops. As for the "room spinning "when you stand? More common than you'd think. *see post Above  * Morning wood? Also common. Increased new sensations of new body, And increased hormones, etc... Sounds like you are right on track... Best Wishes- Dx

Could be hormones, could be that it actually bumps into the mattress now. Whereas before there was that fat donut surrounding it, now it actually hits other stuff. Weight loss is a fun thing, isn't it?

Thanks guys for the feedback. It sounds like there is nothing going on here cept for what is normal. That is a good thing! I also don't want to go back to my old bad ways, I work on protein first, then the rest while watching my fat intake. I am getting more carbs now than when I first started but I am doing a fairly good job of keeping them in check. As I have explored what I can eat or not, I have made the discovery that most things are ok, which kind of bites because that puts the effort back on ME not the tool, OH WELL, that is where the responseability always was anyway, though it is much easier to keep a handle on it with the tool. I still portion out my servings and for the most part, stop before I get that excessive full feeling. My mouth and head want more but I can get over that by reminding myself that I can have more later and that the food is not going away. It is good to know that I am not alone in the TENT MAKING department also! It is reassuring to know that the equipment still works and even though it might not get used as much as when we were first married (who does?) it is there and is ready.
