Jim P, Great law! And just this morning my wife read me a Latin proverb, which roughly means: They hate what they do not understand. (I don't understand Latin proverbs, bu****cha gonna do?)

I equate non-obese people (save medical personnel) giving "advice" and opinions on weight loss to me (as a man) giving advice on tampons.  Unless you are/have been obese or an MD, shut the hell up!

I've also enjoyed Freakonomics, but these guys are way the **** off.  We've all heard the line (even from the health care community) about "well, you know 'Skippy', it's just a matter of being committed - you know, willpower."  How many people have the willpower to starve themselves for weeks/months at a time?  How many of us fatboys have lost literally hundreds, if not thousands of pounds in this way?  The problem is, many of our bodies do not work correctly, meaning we wind up regaining all of the weight we've lost and more.
Just because medical science doesn't yet have all of the answers on obesity and its causes (and can't admit what they don't know), doesn't mean that we are inherently flawed, weak-willed individuals.  I've spent YEARS having this argument with doctors and few will admit what everyone in this forum already knows - the problem isn't a lack of willpower, knowledge, documentation, intelligence, or training.  OUR BODIES ARE ****** UP AND DO NOT WORK THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO.  Whether they started off that way, or we did overeat and "broke" the system, it doesn't matter.
Dubner and Levitt and about 100 million others need to join the "Buy a ******g Clue Club."
