When reading this particular board, sometimes guys refer to a FART, all caps.  Is this an acronymn for something?  Or just a saying? One post said:  New FART, and then something about clothes. Just curious, feel out of the loop.

Speaking of farts................ nobody warned me about the added gas that this surgery modification produces.  Is this forever?  How bout you Dex?  You've been around a long time?

Yes and no, for me any way. At 11 months out I still have some killer gas. I have found that I can control it a little bit. If I drink some thing to soon after eating and push my food through to fast it seems to make the gas worse. Also remember to chew very well. As you get farther out you may find that your pouch can tolerate you not chewing your food quite as well as you did just after surgery. What we must remember is your mouth is now doing more of the digestion than before. Your stomache can not do it any more. The better we break it down by chewing the easier it is on our pouch. I now realize that before surgery  I really didn't chew my food very well at all. That was one of the hardest things to get through my head was to chew my food.  pan head

My perception is that gas is much reduced from before surgery, perhaps just because of the giant reduction in volume.  It was a bit more explosive (but less frequent) right after surgery.  Now it is neither frequent nor notable. But ph suggests chewing might be relevant, and I have gone from tear and swallow to compulsively chewing my food to nothing, so that might explain it.

Completely normal after about the 8th month. I did have a problem early on When too many antibiotic prescrptions knocked my intestinal bacteria out of balance, But no problem since then. If I eat a lot of bread, (but I rarely do) It'll "blow me up real good!" But when I just eat normally? No issue at all. Best Wishes- Dx

In the short term (up to 2 months out), just about anything will make you fart (original definition) because the gas is a symptom of healing. The surgery is going to disrupt the biota in your gut, and until everything comes back, you're going to toot. In the longer term, as you resume a more regular diet, you'll drop some stuff that caused gas, pick up others, and develop eating habits that will most likely reduce ingested air. In the end, you'll trumpet about as much as you did before, but all bets are off regarding relative pungency. ETA: This doesn't count for lap banders, because their innards aren't sliced and diced.
