George has bleeding ulcers in his pouch. Three pints of blood Saturday night one Sunday and one yesterday. He is stable but will be in the hospital for several more days. I have had brief contact with daughter not much more. Are ulcers something that we have to deal with continuously?

Gerald, Hope your friend is fixed up soon! “Ulcers” are one of the possible complications from Gastric Bypass. But-  “…something that we have to deal with continuously?” Not common.  Alcohol use, frequent use of Aspirin and NSAIDS without taking accompanying Previcid, Nexium, etc… Does raise the odds of developing an ulcer. (Though, the same is true for those who have never had WLS) I’m past 4 years out, I’ve been taking Prescription Strength NSAIDS (per doctor’s orders) For nearly half a year…. No Ulcers. Many Post-Op RNY’s are allowed NSAIDS by their Docs With no ill-effects. Like everything you read out here however,

“Ask YOUR Doc for their recommendations.” Best Wishes- Dx

Hey DX? Some doc's allow NSAIDS with acid reducers? I'll have to ask about that. It's really making me nervous about not being able to take mine. (sorry bout the off topic). Still praying for your friend! Dale
