I am doing my surgery in Dec because I have already met the deductable this year.  But you make some excellent points.

I scheduled for Jan. because of the copays. I'm glad I did, I had some complications and as these things go it has taken nearly a year to work through the system. I do wish I had flexed more than I did ($1500.)

All very valid points that you brought up prior to my surgery and did make me stop and think about waiting till Jan. For me it was a good thing I didn't though because my surgeon went out of network in Jan of that year. It would have added some major cost to my surgery. What really got me is that I wouldn't have had a clue untill I started getting the bills. The way I found out was after one of my follow up visits my insurance would not pay for it. When I called and asked why they told me he was no longer in network.  If your insurance changes or renews after the end of the year I would check to make sure he or she is still in network. I have had a complication free recovery so mine worked out for me.  pan head

Hello everyone, I have a similar question for you. I am approved for my RNY by my current insurance (pacificare) and my surgery is scheduled for december 14th. I found out last week though that my company is switching to blue cross come jan 1st. the worrier I can be sometimes though, this is not sitting well with me. I know I’m covered by my current insurance until 11:59 december 31 and they have already approved the surgery. I was told by my surgeon & medical group that as long as my surgery is done by december 31, pacificare will pay. I’m just afraid that after the surgery when I need my post op follow ups & testing blue cross might give me some trouble. Again my medical group and my surgeon don’t seem too concerned about that. Anyone else have something similar happen?
