Hi y'all. anybody try or use a total gym, or a Bayou total trainer. starting to workout, and hate going to the gym...thought one of these might be a great machine for a newbie exerciser for the wife and me. thanks..\skinny kenny....(minus 43 lbs, and counting)

hi skinnykenny, this is jeff miller a new member having surgery tomorrow. i have a total gym and it just sits with the other workout stuff in the garage. I use my treadmill ,but the total gym is great if you have a place to put it, it takes a workout to move it in the house, and storing it.  My recommendation is mattfurey.com,  i am not selling things from his website , but his combat abs book and dvd is the best. i used to have a membership but with his book, excellent price about 30 is cheaper than a total gym and you will learn things that you can take with you the rest of your life without having to worry about health club. you will learn much more than i can tell you on his website.  his books are not the best quality as far as fluff goes , but they are packed with information that is no bull, and i have total confidence in his ideas and programs. i have bought most of his stuff and never been disappointed, and i quit looking at all those high priced gym equipment. hope this helps.

Just my 2 cents, but I would not waste money on an exercise machine.  Nine times out of ten it turns into a clothing rack or worse.  One program I did enjoy and saw some great results from was the power 90 workout DVD.  For the beginner you need only the DVD and either a band or light dumbell set.  It has a cardio, abs and strength training routine as well as a beginner and advanced sessions.  If your just getting started it's great to start building strength, flexibility and increasing your cardio.  I don't use it anymore because I like the gym now.  I found a used copy on ebay for about half price. Good luck!

I liked the total gym....my trainer had one ...and he would have me on it regularly.  Personally, I prefer the gym......there is just something about going to the gym everyday, and having to work out when you are there...'m sure I woudln't work out nearly as much at home.  Scott

If by "Total Gym", you mean that gizmo that Chuck Norris uses/endorses on his infomercials?   I've always thought that looks like one of those exercise things that you have to be in good shape to use, to begin with!   I note that you have to fit on top of the thing and be able to pull your own weight with it (no pun) ..  I don't know about other members, but no way I could use that thing @ 400 lbs., or even 300 lbs.!
